NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Minnesota

(Thursday, December 5th)

Final Score: Minnesota 4, Chicago 3

St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonas Brodin scored the tying goal and Marco Scandella won it late in regulation for Minnesota, which posted a 4-3 victory over Chicago at Xcel Energy Center.

Matt Cooke and Zach Parise also lit the lamp and Jared Spurgeon added two assists for the Wild, who wasted a 2-0 lead but rebounded for their second straight win after losing four in a row.

Josh Harding struggled at times, but stopped 16 shots for the win.

Jeremy Morin, Brandon Saad and Marian Hossa tallied for the Blackhawks, losers of two in a row after winning six consecutive outings.

Corey Crawford made 19 saves in defeat.

Minnesota evened the score with 5:39 on the clock as Brodin's shot from the right point changed direction to the back of the net. Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook had gone off for hooking less than a minute prior to the marker.

"We needed a (penalty) kill and we didn't get it done," Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said.

The Wild then moved ahead by a 4-3 count inside of two minutes remaining, when Marco Scandella's rising left-point drive sailed through a Nino Niederreiter screen and past Crawford.

Crawford was on the bench for an extra skater in the final 90 seconds, but his offense couldn't crack Harding.

Harding did the splits to keep a Patrick Sharp breakaway chance from sliding over the goal line in the early stages of the contest.

Cooke then opened the scoring with 4:23 played after the opening faceoff on a wrister.

Parise's power-play strike with 3:01 left in the second gave the hosts a two- goal edge, but it lasted less than three minutes as Morin's first of the year brought Chicago within 2-1 before intermission.

Saad beat Harding on a high wrister at the 43-second mark of the third, then Hossa gave the Blackhawks their first lead of the contest, 3-2, with 6:35 played by whipping a shot high and inside the far post from the left circle.

"When you start the game that way and play the game that way, it's easier to battle through (the Chicago comeback)," Wild head coach Mike Yeo said.
