NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at Calgary

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Joni Ortio made 30 saves for his first NHL win and the Calgary Flames beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 on Wednesday night.

Ortio, making his second NHL start, had his shutout bid spoiled with 9:36 remaining when Kyle Turris sticked around him on the low right side after picking up a loose puck in the slot.

Markus Granlund scored his first NHL goal and Paul Byron, Joe Colborne and Mike Cammalleri also found the net for the Flames, who won for the second time in three games.

"It felt good," Granlund said of his first NHL goal. "I feel more comfortable every day. I just keep going."

Craig Anderson gave up four goals on 28 shots for the Senators, who have lost four of their last five.

Both teams were active at the trade deadline Wednesday.

The Flames shipped right wing Lee Stempniak to Pittsburgh and goaltender Reto Berra to Colorado, getting a second- and third-round pick in this year's draft in return.

The Senators acquired forward Ales Hemsky from Edmonton for a pair of draft picks and signed defenseman Chris Phillips to a two-year contract extension.

Hemsky played 16 minutes and had two shots in his Ottawa debut and said he was excited to be in a playoff race after moving on from last-place Edmonton.

"I expected I would be moved. They talked about it in the summer," said Hemsky, who played his first 11 seasons for the Oilers. "So I prepared for that. I knew it would happen, I just didn't know where."

Granlund, a 20-year-old center playing in his fourth NHL game, scored 2:04 into the game on a rebound in the slot to give Calgary a 1-0 lead.

Byron one-timed a pass from Mark Giordano for a power-play goal 9:12 into the second period and Colborne scored from the low left side with 2:47 left in the period to make it 3-0.

After Turris' goal, Cammalleri restored Calgary's three-goal lead 58 seconds later on a power play, scoring from the low right circle.

Calgary center Jiri Hudler left the game with an upper-body injury after he was checked hard by Ottawa forward Clarke MacArthur in the opening seconds of the third period. MacArthur's shoulder check sent Hudler back-first into the boards.

Game Notes

Calgary recalled forwards Corban Knight and Max Reinhart and goaltender Joey MacDonald from Abbotsford on Wednesday and assigned defenseman Derek Smith to the AHL team. Knight and Reinhart both played and Reinhart had an assist ... Ottawa assigned defenseman Joe Corvo to Chicago of the AHL ... Buffalo claimed winger Cory Conacher off waivers from the Senators on Wednesday ... Calgary remains home to play the Islanders on Friday ... The Senators close out a four-game road trip on Saturday at Winnipeg.
