NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, October 10th (All times Eastern)

New York Rangers (1-2-0) at Anaheim Ducks (2-1-0), 10 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers will likely have to try and rebound from a seven-goal setback without Rick Nash as they visit the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

The Rangers picked up their first victory of the season with a solid effort against Los Angeles in a 3-1 decision on Monday. However, they were dismantled 9-2 in San Jose the following night to fall to 1-2-0 on the season.

Henrik Lundqvist was pulled after giving up four goals on 26 shots, while backup Martin Biron was touched for five goals on 21 shots faced.

Brad Richards and Derek Dorsett each scored for New York, which will play the fourth contest of its season-opening nine-game road trip tonight.

"The Sharks were on top of their game," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. "It's tough to understand, at this point, how we can play so well last night and play this way tonight."

Vigneault was without the services of Nash for most of the game. The forward took an elbow to the head from San Jose's Brad Stuart early in the first period and finished out the frame, but did not play the rest of the game.

"It just didn't feel right," Nash said. "Any time you get a head shot you're concerned. It doesn't feel good."

Nash is doubtful for tonight, while Stuart was handed a three-game suspension for the hit.

The Ducks return home after winning twice on their season-opening, three-game road trip. They picked up a 3-2 victory over Winnipeg last time out on Sunday.

Corey Perry had the game-winning goal with 5:31 to play in the third period, while Andrew Cogliano and Mathieu Perreault also scored.

The contest marked the likely final trip to Winnipeg of Teemu Selanne's career, with the 43-year-old set to retire at season's end.

Selanne, who racked up 147 goals and 306 points in 231 games with the original Jets to begin his career, was honored with a video tribute during the game, prompting a standing ovation from the Winnipeg faithful.

"I've decided it is my last year and too bad we only play here once because it would be nice to play more in front of this crowd," Selanne said. "It is what it is. But who knows, maybe we play (Winnipeg) in the playoffs."

Viktor Fasth stopped 15-of-17 shots for the Ducks, who will play their next five on home ice.

Fasth has never before faced the Rangers, while Jonas Hiller is 1-2-1 against them with a 1.69 goals against average and .929 save percentage.

Lundqvist has faced Anaheim six times in his career, going 3-2-1 with a 2.28 GAA and .914 save percentage.

The Rangers have won four of their last six versus the Ducks and will visit Anaheim for the first time since March 9, 2011.
