NHL Game Summary - New Jersey at Washington

(Saturday, February 8th)

Final Score: Washington 3, New Jersey 0

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Julien Brouillette scored the winner in the third period and Braden Holtby posted 25 saves for his third shutout of the season as Washington took a 3-0 win over New Jersey on Saturday.

Martin Erat and Troy Brouwer added empty-net goals for the Capitals, who won three of four going into the break.

"They're a frustrating team to play because they don't give you much," said Washington head coach Adam Oates. "But we were able to get that one and it turned out to be enough. This was a good team win going into the break."

Cory Schneider gave up a goal on 24 shots for the Devils, who have lost three of four.

"You're not going to win unless you score a couple of goals in this league and we didn't do enough things offensively to win the game, " said New Jersey head coach Peter DeBoer. "It just felt like one of those games where the team that scored the first goal would win it and that's how it turned out."

With no score on the board, Washington won a right circle faceoff and eventually worked the puck over to the left point for Brouillette, who let loose with a shot that found its way through traffic for his first NHL goal in his second game at 10:50.

From there, Holtby turned aside six shots to polish off his 10th career shutout and Erat and Brouwer hit a pair of open nets to account for the final score.

Holtby made 19 saves through the first two periods while Schneider stopped 16 shots.
