NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Saturday, November 23rd (All times Eastern)

New Jersey Devils (9-8-5) at San Jose Sharks (14-3-5), 10:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - Jaromir Jagr played the hero for New Jersey the last time out and the veteran winger added to his already solid Hall of Fame credentials in the process.

On Saturday, Jagr and the Devils will try to extend their season-best winning streak to four games when they visit the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.

Jagr scored the game-winner 2:30 into overtime to lift New Jersey to a 2-1 triumph in Los Angeles on Thursday. It was the Czech star's 690th career goal, tying him with his former Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Mario Lemieux for ninth place on the NHL's all-time list.

The score also marked Jagr's 121st game-winning goal of his career, matching the great Gordie Howe for the most GWGs in NHL history.

Jagr was whistled for holding 17 seconds into overtime, but Kings forward Dustin Brown received a diving penalty on the play and the teams skated 3- on-3.

"With all respect to Brown I am not that strong," the 41-year-old Jagr said of the controversial call. "I grabbed him and held him and whatever but I am not 'The Terminator' and he is very strong so I think he acted a little bit, but I also held him."

Just after both minors ended, Marek Zidlicky sent the disc to the slot for a cutting Jagr, who controlled the puck between the circles before stuffing it home from the low right side for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Ryan Carter scored New Jersey's lone regulation goal 5:52 into the third, while Cory Schneider stopped 34 shots for the Devils, who earned their fifth win in six tries despite managing just 15 shots.

The Devils have won three straight on the road after going 2-0 at the start of a three-game swing that ends tonight. New Jersey is 5-6-3 as the guest this season and has lost in two of its last three trips to San Jose. This is the first meeting between the Sharks and Devils in Silicon Valley since Oct. 27, 2010, when San Jose recorded a 5-2 victory.

New Jersey has claimed four of the past six overall meetings versus the Sharks, but San Jose has won two of the last three.

The Sharks opened a five-game homestand with Thursday's 5-1 trouncing of the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was the fourth win in five outings for San Jose after a season-worst five-game losing streak from Oct. 30-Nov. 10.

Tommy Wingels notched the first two-goal game of his career to spark the lopsided win over the Lightning. Antti Niemi also made 36 saves to help the Sharks subdue the visitors.

Brad Stuart, Brent Burns and Patrick Marleau also had goals for San Jose, while Logan Couture added three assists to the winning cause.

San Jose is sporting a solid 6-1-2 record on home ice this season. The Sharks will continue this homestand when they welcome Los Angeles to Northern California on Wednesday.
