Description: San Jose winger-turned-defensemen Brent Burns will be a highly sought after fantasy value in 2014-15 because of his dual eligibilty.
Insight: He can be productive at either position and will be on the top blueline pairing along with power play unit work. He posted 48 points last season and we still think he can post 42 points from the blueline.

9/19/2014 9:43:00 PM
Description: San Jose head coach Todd McLellan confirms that the team sees Brent Burns as a defenseman and not a forward according to CSN Bay Area.
Insight: Both Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau said they would like to see Burns return to forward, but their head coach does not agree. Being that the Sharks lost Dan Boyle and Brad Stuart this offseason, it is probably best for the team leaving Burns on the blue line.

Insight: Burns actually did pretty well at forward in 2013-14, contributing 22 goals and 26 assists in 69 games. His 245 shots on goal were a career-high. Because of his knack for scoring, we'd expect Burns to be one of the better defensemen in fantasy hockey next season.

3/19/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns had two points Tuesday against Florida.
Insight: Burns has scored five goals in his last eight games after failing to get one from Jan. 7 to March 2. He has a career-high 19 goals with 18 assists, 26 PIM, 202 SOG and a +26 in 57 games this season.

Cold3/5/2014 9:57:00 AM
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns scored his first goal since Jan. 5 Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Insight: Burns only has eight points in his last 24 games, bringing him to 31 points in 50 games this season. With 177 SOG and a +22 rating he's still a fantasy option, especially if he has blue-line eligibility in your league.

1/16/2014 10:08:00 PM
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns had two assists, five SOG and a +2 Thursday at Florida.
Insight: Burns has 14 goals, 14 assists, 125 SOG and a +22 in 35 games, and if you're lucky, he's still eligible on defense in your league.

Hot11/29/2013 9:38:00 PM
Description: Sharks right wing Brent Burns recorded his first career hat trick Friday in a 6-3 win over St. Louis.
Insight: That gives Burns eight goals and six assists in just 12 regular season games. San Jose's first line (Burns, Tomas Hertl and Joe Thornton) produced five of the team's six goals on Friday.

11/21/2013 4:54:00 PM
Description: San Jose forward Brent Burns (upper body) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday after being activated from injured reserve, according to mercurynews.com.
Insight: Burns hasn't played since taking a stick to the mouth on Oct. 19. He has been practicing for a couple of weeks and is finally ready to play. Burns had four goals and eight points in the first eight games and should be owned in all leagues.

Description: San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns (upper body) is not expected to return Thursday, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: Burns has missed the last 10 games after taking a stick to the mouth on Oct. 19. He has been practicing so he should be getting close to a return.

Description: San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns (upper body) is not expected to return Tuesday, according to csnbayarea.com.
Insight: Burns has missed the last nine games after taking a stick to the mouth on Oct. 19. He has been practicing so he should be getting close to a return.

11/8/2013 10:12:00 PM
Description: San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns (upper body) has been on the ice with his teammates for four straight days, according to csnbayarea.com. However, coach Todd McLellan wouldn't say if Burns will be available for San Jose's upcoming five-game road trip.
Insight: Burns was hit in the mouth by a stick on Oct. 19 and has missed eight straight games. The team has been very tight-lipped about his injury. "He's progressing," McLellan said. "Today's practice was a man’s practice, and he participated fully in it. That's a good step for him."

11/6/2013 7:26:00 PM
Description: San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns (mouth) hasn't played since Oct. 19.
Insight: Burns was hit in the mouth by a puck on Oct. 19 and has missed seven straight games. The first game he missed was for "sore gums," but the Sharks have not revealed any information regarding his status since then.

10/26/2013 3:02:00 PM
Description: San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns (mouth) will not play Saturday or Sunday, according to CSNBayArea.com.
Insight: Burns was hit in the mouth by a puck last Saturday and missed the last two games.

Description: San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns (mouth) will miss Thursday's game against the Bruins.
Insight: Burns was hit in the mouth by a puck on Saturday and missed Monday's game. Freddie Hamilton has taken his place on the top line.

Hot3/28/2013 1:23:00 PM
Description: San Jose Sharks F/D Brent Burns has four goals and five assists in eight games since returning from a leg injury.
Insight: Burns has been getting playing time at forward in 5-on-5 situations and defenseman on the power play, which gives him fantastic fantasy value as a blueliner.

3/12/2013 4:27:00 PM
Description: San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns (leg) is expected to return to action Tuesday after missing the past seven games, but he will skate at forward, not defense, according to the San Jose Mercury News' David Pollak.
Insight: Burns, who has only played six games this season and is still in search of his first point, also will play some defense on the power play. Since he's still eligible at defenseman, this could vastly improve his fantasy value if he gets more scoring chances.

2/26/2013 12:06:00 PM
Description: San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns, who left Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury, will miss Tuesday's game against Colorado and likely one more.
Insight: Burns has only played six games this season and hasn't recorded his first point yet. He had 37 points and 201 SOG in 81 games with the Sharks last season so there's reason to believe he'll return to fantasy-worthy production if he can stay healthy.

Description: San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns is doubtful for Tuesday's game against Edmonton with a lower body injury.
Insight: Burns posted 37 points last season on 11 goals and 26 assists after 46 points in the previous season with Minnesota. He's a top-scoring defenseman with plenty of fantasy value when healthy.
