NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Tuesday, November 5th (All times Eastern)

Calgary Flames (6-6-2) at Minnesota Wild (8-4-3), 8 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Wild and Calgary Flames both got excellent efforts from their goaltenders last time out to find the win column.

The two clubs hope for more of the same on Tuesday night when they meet for the first time this season in Minnesota.

The Flames came into Sunday's contest against the Chicago Blackhawks having lost four of five and six of their previous eight, but got a superb 42-save performance by Reto Berra in his NHL debut for a 3-2 overtime win.

For the Wild, they won for the fifth time in six games as Josh Harding recorded his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Berra was recalled from the American Hockey League after the struggling Joey MacDonald was waived and the 26-year-old faced a tough first test in the defending-champion Blackhawks. Berra was up to the task and earned the win when Kris Russell scored 1:32 into overtime.

"Honestly I had a lot of thoughts," Berra said of the time leading up to his debut. "Everything went through my mind. Right after lunch I always sleep, but today I couldn't sleep. I was really nervous, but right before the game, when I was just sitting in here, I just thought, 'Go out and play your game and have fun. You have nothing to lose.' I put the excitement and the nerves into a positive energy."

Berra, a fourth-round pick by St. Louis in 2006, was acquired in the trade that sent defenseman Jay Bouwmeester to the Blues on April 1 of last season.

Mike Cammalleri and Curtis Glencross also scored. Cammalleri has four goals and seven points in seven games this season, while Russell has tallied five points over a four-game point streak.

Harding, meanwhile, has been excellent this season, going 7-2-1 while leading the NHL with a 1.10 goals against average and .950 save percentage. He stopped all 19 shots faced in Sunday's triumph over the Devils for his ninth career shutout.

"The guys are making it easy. It's never about one player. We win as a team and we lose as a team like we always say. This was another team win," Harding said.

Mikael Granlund, Torrey Mitchell, Dany Heatley and Jason Pominville all lit the lamp for Minnesota, which got three assists from Nino Niederreiter.

Granlund notched his first goal of the season and has also logged six assists over a five-game point streak. Pominville, meanwhile, has a goal in four straight contests, with six tallies and two assists over that span. He was named the NHL's First Star for the week on Monday.

The Wild have won four of their past six versus the Flames, though Harding is just 2-5-1 with a 2.44 GAA in nine previous meetings. He'll make his seventh career start against them tonight.
