NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Nashville

(Thursday, January 9th)

Final Score: Anaheim 4, Nashville 3

Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Teemu Selanne's goal late in the second period lifted the red-hot Anaheim Ducks over the Nashville Predators, 4-3, on Thursday.

Ryan Getzlaf had two goals and an assist for the Ducks, who became the first team to reach the 70-point plateau this season. Corey Perry also lit the lamp.

Frederik Andersen stopped 23-of-26 shots for Anaheim, which has scored four-or -more goals in five consecutive games for the first time in club history.

The Ducks, who have won five in a row, sit first in the Pacific Division with 71 points.

"It's just the confidence," Selanne said of his team's ability to battle back. "We were down two, but it didn't bother us. We just kept coming."

Craig Smith had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who have lost four of five. Marek Mazanec turned aside 24-of-28 shots.

"We were turning over too many pucks," Nashville's Shea Weber said. "They (the Ducks) can turn transition pucks into goals and they were able to do that tonight."

The Predators drew first blood at the 1:52 mark of the first period. Gabriel Bourque controlled the puck behind the net before sliding a pass in front to Paul Gaustad, whose wrist shot beat Andersen.

Smith lit the lamp just 30 seconds later when he took a pass from Matt Cullen on a 2-on-1 rush.

Getzlaf scored a pair of goals in the first 4:36 of the middle stanza to tie the game. Both goals came from the left circle, with the second coming off a Nashville turnover.

Nashville went back in front at 5:31 when Smith's pass from the bottom of the right circle deflected off Rich Clune and past Andersen.

Less than a minute later, Perry made it a 3-3 game. Getzlaf found a wide open Perry, who beat Mazanec on a breakaway.

The Ducks took the lead on Selanne's power-play goal with 1:08 remaining in the second. Patrick Maroon's backhanded pass from the side of the net led to Selanne's goal.

Andersen made 12 saves in the third stanza to preserve the victory.

Quiet deadline day for the Canes

With a salary cap and no-trade clauses, blockbuster deals are fewer and far between in general; the trade deadline has become more fan-fiction and Twitter fodder than actual trades that turn around a franchise's fortunes.
