NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Thursday, November 7th (All times Eastern)

Dallas Stars (7-6-2) at Detroit Red Wings (9-5-2), 7:30 p.m.

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Stars aim for their first three-game winning streak of the season on Thursday night as they wrap up a road trip against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Stars have won the first two contests of their three-game swing, picking up shootout victories over the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins. It marks just the second time this season Dallas has won back-to-back games.

Tuesday's game versus the Bruins marked the first between the clubs since a trade between the clubs on July 4. Dallas acquired Tyler Seguin, the former second-overall pick of the 2010 draft, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button from Boston in exchange for Loui Eriksson and a trio of prospects.

Both Peverley and Seguin notched shootout tallies, while netminder Kari Lehtonen stopped three of the skaters he faced in the tiebreaker.

"Going into the game I didn't know what to expect. I heard some cheers, some boos. But it was a great hockey game and a great win," said Seguin, who won a Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011 and has six goals with 15 points in 15 games this season.

"One hundred percent I'd say it was a special game," added the forward. "I knew where this was on the calendar, my first time in Boston. Obviously, the win not only for me personally, but just for this team that was a good identity win for us."

Jaime Benn and Vernon Fiddler had regulation goals and Lehtonen made 34 saves for the Stars, who have points in six of their last seven (4-1-2).

"I think we all know they have a lot of big strong guys over there," said Peverley. "We don't want to get into the physical battles with them, but we have four good lines that can skate and we used that to our advantage tonight."

The Red Wings return home following a four-game road trip, winning the first three on the swing ahead of Monday's 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.

Henrik Zetterberg and Danny Dekeyser had goals and Jimmy Howard came up with 43 saves in the losing effort.

"You know, I didn't think we were great tonight in any way, but you got to give the opposition credit too," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "They were at home and they gave up five goals the other night and they were ready to skate. I thought they played hard and we didn't play hard enough or didn't have the energy to play hard enough."

Dekeyser scored his first career NHL goal, which came in his 16th game this season and 27th of his career. Zetterberg added his eighth goal and 15th point of the campaign and has totaled nine goals and 39 points in 35 games against Dallas.

Forward Johan Franzen has missed the past two games due to illness and will not play tonight.

The Red Wings are set to play four straight and seven of their next eight at home and have won three of their last four in Detroit versus Dallas. They have won six of the past seven encounters overall, holding the Stars to four goals in the past four meetings.

Howard is 6-5-1 with a 2.17 goals against average and one shutout in 12 meetings with the Stars, while Lehtonen has gone 4-6-0 with a 3.24 GAA in 10 games against the Red Wings.
