NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Colorado

(Monday, January 6th)

Final Score: Calgary 4, Colorado 3

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Cammalleri scored the winner on the power play with 3:30 to play as the Calgary Flames took a 4-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.

Jiri Hudler and Joe Colborne each had a goal and an assist, while Sean Monahan scored the other goal for the Flames, who snapped a four-game losing streak and won for just the third time in their past 11 games. Karri Ramo stopped 22 shots in the win.

"I thought it started with our power play tonight," said Cammalleri. "Our competition level was better and we were able to stick with our game plan. We did a really good job with faceoffs tonight and one-on-one battles."

Nathan MacKinnon scored twice and Paul Stastny had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who had won three straight coming in. Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed four goals on 19 shots in the loss.

Colorado had tied the score halfway through the third period as Gabriel Landeskog sent a pass from the left circle to the side of the net, where Stastny came out front and snuck in a backhand for his 12th of the year.

Skating on the power play as Colorado had taken a too many men on the ice call, the Flames took a 4-3 lead with 3:30 to play.

On the score, Colborne sent the puck from the left boards behind the net and back the other way. From there, Hudler grabbed the disc and quickly backhanded a pass to the front where Cammalleri one-timed it home.

Colorado got Giguere out of the net for an extra attacker late in the game, but was unable to get any quality chances before time expired.

"They really capitalized on their scoring chances tonight," said Landeskog. "We just couldn't get any shots on net, and when we did, we took some bad penalties. It's tough. We've been in their shoes. They got a spark early and got some momentum."

Calgary scored just 1:08 into the game as Monahan brought the puck in down the right wing and sent a shot on net that Giguere stopped, but the rebound bounced off his defender and snuck i.

Colorado, though, scored a pair of power-play goals from MacKinnon later in the first to take the lead.

The first came at 7:17 as MacKinnon stuffed the puck in from down low, the second came at 14:32 when he one-timed a shot in from the slot.

Calgary was able to tie the game at 15:10 of the second period, as Colborne was able to tip in a shot, and Hudler's 12th of the year came at 17:38 to give the team a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
