NHL Game Summary - Florida at Detroit

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Bjugstad registered the only goal of the shootout, as Florida rallied from a pair of two-goal deficits in the third period to post a 5-4 victory at Joe Louis Arena.

Jesse Winchester, Drew Shore and Brad Boyes tallied in the final stanza for the Panthers, who have taken three of their last four contests.

Sean Bergenheim also lit the lamp while Tim Thomas stopped 26 shots in regulation and then three in the game's final segment.

"We certainly didn't do everything very well so we certainly have to clean up those areas but we're finding ways to win," Florida head coach Peter Horachek said.

Tomas Tatar, Riley Sheahan, Daniel Alfredsson and Gustav Nyquist scored for the Red Wings, who welcomed Johan Franzen back to the lineup after missing a month due to a concussion but saw their two-game win streak halted.

"It's hard to really put a finger on it," Sheahan said when asked of why they lost. "It's kind of just break downs here and there."

Jonas Gustavsson made 33 saves in the setback.

After Tatar missed his chance, Bjugstad closed out the first round by scoring on a wrister. Alfredsson and Patrick Eaves then failed in turn and Florida claimed victory.

The Wings were up 3-1 after two periods, and a tally early in the third was wiped out due to Dan Cleary making contact with Thomas in his crease. The Panthers eventually closed the two- goal gap near the midway point as Tom Gilbert tipped a Marcel Goc shot on the net, then Winchester crashed the crease and popped the loose disc home.

The hosts restored that two-goal margin with 6:27 on the clock when Tatar lifted a Sheahan feed under the crossbar from the right side, yet Shore drew Florida within 4-3 just under a minute later.

Boyes' short-handed rush up the right wing resulted in a successful shot to the far post and a tie game with 3:46 to play.

Thomas made three saves and Gustavsson a pair in overtime.

Bergenheim opened the scoring just 1:48 after the first puck drop, taking a lead pass from Dmitry Kulikov, working towards the Detroit net and scoring on the backhand.

Nyquist capitalized off a Shore turnover and beat Thomas through the pads at 8:12 of the second, then Alfredsson followed up a Brendan Smith shot to give the Wings a 2-1 edge 79 seconds later. It was a 3-1 game for the hosts with 1:45 remaining when Sheahan pumped home a power-play tally.

The Panthers improved to 7-5 in shootouts, while the Wings fell to 3-8 ... Detroit completed its five-game homestand with a 3-1-1 record and face the Flyers in Philadelphia on Tuesday ... Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg was a late scratch with an upper-body injury ... Detroit announced prior to the game that forward Mikael Samuelsson cleared waivers and was assigned to Grand Rapids of the AHL ... The Panthers activated defenseman Dylan Olsen from injured reserve and placed forward Tomas Kopecky on IR.
