NHL Game Summary - Boston at Edmonton

(Thursday, December 12th)

Final Score: Boston 4, Edmonton 2

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarome Iginla scored twice as the Boston Bruins took a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

Dennis Seidenberg posted a goal and an assist while Brad Marchand also scored for the Bruins, who have taken four straight and six of seven. Chad Johnson made 39 saves in the win.

"I didn't like the goals we gave up for what we expect of our team. They were sloppy," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said.

Boston has won 11 straight games against Edmonton as the last time the team dropped a game was a 6-1 loss in Edmonton on Oct. 17, 2000.

David Perron scored both goals for the Oilers, who have alternated losses and wins over the past nine games. Devan Dubnyk gave up three goals on 18 shots in one period of play. Jason LaBarbera stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief.

Boston took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period as Seidenberg skated down the left wing and just after crossing the blueline let loose with a knuckler that fooled Dubnyk.

The next goal also went to Boston as Iginla scored off a one-timer from the right circle with Milan Lucic providing a screen in front at 16:11 of the first.

While shorthanded, the Bruins made it a 3-0 game as Patrice Bergeron skated down the right side and passed the puck past a sliding defenseman over to the left where Marchand finished off the play for his fifth of the year.

"I don't know if we won a battle in the first period," Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins said

Edmonton made it a 3-1 game at 3:25 of the second as Perron gained the line and from the right circle he buried his chance.

The Oilers made it a 3-2 game as Perron's one-handed wraparound from the right side made it in for his 14th of the season.

Boston, though, was able to kill off a pair of penalties in the third period, with Johnson turning away 13 shots and Iginla sealing the win with an empty- netter in the final minute.

Game Notes

Boston will look to finish off a perfect four-game road trip in Vancouver on Saturday ... Edmonton hits the road for four games starting in Vancouver on Friday ... Iginla has 36 goals and 48 assists in 90 career games against the Oilers.
