Chapel Hill, N.C. — The Wolfpack on Sunday held No. 4 North Carolina to just two runs, both scored in the fifth, to pull off a 4-2 victory in the third game of the rivalry series.
It was win 999 for North Carolina State University baseball coach Elliot Avent.
Michael Bienlien pitched four strong innings before handing off to Johnny Piedmonte. Each State pitcher surrendered four hits.
Brock Deatherage homered off Austin Bergner (3-2) to open the scoring in the third, and the Wolfpack (20-17, 8-10 ACC) added one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
North Carolina starter Austin Bergner struggled in the fifth, ultimately allowing a bases-loaded walk that brought Deatherage home for the Pack's fourth run.
