Sparked by Brett Austin's three-RBI day in the leadoff spot, NC State baseball rolled to an 11-4 victory over Canisius on Monday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (1-1) retooled its lineup on Monday, leading off Austin, who answered by tying career-highs for hits and RBIs. Austin went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs. Austin started in right field, giving John Mangum a chance to go 2-for-5 with a double and two runs in a start at catcher.

Carlos Rodon started at designated hitter, providing a 1-for-3 line while scoring twice and drawing a walk. Jake Fincher and Bubby Riley managed two hits each, with Fincher supplying a double and Riley stealing his first base of 2014.

Trea Turner knocked in a pair of runs with his only hit in a 1-for-3 performance, and swiped his second bag of the year.

Two Pack freshmen made the first appearances of their careers. Preston Palmeiro earned his first RBI with a one-out chopper to the right side. Matt Vernon drew a walk that allowed him to score his first collegiate run.

The Wolfpack pitching staff combined to strikeout 10 on the afternoon. D.J. Thomas (1-0) claimed the win on a sterling three-inning relief effort, tying his career-high with six strikeouts while walking one, holding Canisius (1-1) to one earned on one hit.

Logan Jernigan drew the start and worked four innings, allowing two earned on three hits. Chris Williams finished the deed by throwing the final two frames, limiting the Griffins to one earned.

NC State returns to action on Tuesday, February 18 at Elon. Radio coverage will be provided by 88.1 WKNC. Live stats will be available on GoPack.com. Fans can also follow along with live Twitter updates from @NCStateBaseball.

Wow. If I was any more impressed, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.
