Panthers, 49ers match up well

Posted January 6, 2014

I enjoy watching a game like the one in Green Bay on Sunday. You see the breath of the players, you see the crowd bundled up.

Those NFL players are amazing creatures. It's four degrees for crying out loud! They are true pros, so single-minded of purpose in the way they go about their business, which is playing football. They are paid a lot of money to go out and win those games, and they feel the pressure – players and coaches alike – of win or go home.

But I've coached in games like that and it's no fun. When I was on the staff at Tampa Bay, we played against the Baltimore Ravens in a game that was 8 degrees at kickoff. I looked like the Michelin tire man! I couldn't even bend my arms, I had so many layers of clothing on.

San Francisco's win sets up a re-match between the Panthers and 49ers this coming Sunday at 1 o'clock.

These two teams are built exactly the same. They've got great defenses; they've got great quarterbacks. Look for a low-scoring football game – 17-14, 14-10. I wouldn't have to pick a winner there, but that game is going to be fun to watch!

In college football, it's all come down to Auburn and Florida State in the BCS National Championship Monday night. The Seminoles defense has pretty much not been tested all year long. If anybody can test them, it's going to be the Auburn offense.

On the flip side of things, Auburn's defense has been subject to getting burned all year long, and Florida State certainly has the offense to do it. Look for a lot of points in this football game.

Though it is a rematch, this is a totally different ball game in all aspects. It will take a great game on the Panthers part to win. Just win, baby!

    Go Panthers!

Auburn does not have the offense or QB to get into a shootout with FSU. And FSU will score. If Auburn is forced to pass the ball because they have to play catch up, then FSU wins...I hope.

Well, the game is different because it's being played in Charlotte (glad of that), but like you pointed out on another thread, Crabtree will play in this game, and he wasn't available when the Panthers went to San Fran.

I agree: it WILL taka great game on the Panthers' part to win; they're capable, but let's hope they deliver.

I think (and hope) that FSU wins tonight.

GB, came oh so close to blocking that kick.

I don't see how anyone can stand to watch more than about 5 minutes of any FSU game with that constant, annoying chanting of their fans. I'll be pulling for Auburn but will either have the volume muted or will watch it on gamecast lol.

Really happy that the Panthers are playing them at home. Go Panthers.

That dropped INT by Micah Hyde on the last drive drove me crazy as did the scramble by Kap on 3rd and 8 for a first down. The game turns on a very few plays. You make them, you win, you don't, you don't. SF made the plays when needed. Such is football. I thought GB did well considering that half of their defense was missing for all or most of the game. Could have gone either way.
    Eddie Lacy is a beast.

2 QB's who have shown all the prudes you don't need a traditional pocket QB to have success. 2 great defenses.

I know Cam can make up for a lot of personnel shortcomings, but Colin has Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis.

Don't think so. Hope Panthers win but think Cam will be the same old Cam. 49 er's will overwhelm Panthers I'm afraid but hope I'm wrong.

The trend in college and the NFL has been moving toward the mobile QB, and Cam and Kaepernick are two good examples.

Kaepernick has more weapons than Cam does, so I hope the Panthers' stout D can be the difference maker. San Fran also has a very good defense, so this should be a heck of a game.
