Panthers' Hardy arrested on assault charge

Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy

— Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was charged with two misdemeanors Tuesday for alleged threats and an assault on a female, according to a team statement.

"We are very disappointed to learn of allegations involving Greg and are concerned for all parties as we continue to investigate," the statement said.

According to the police report, patrol officers responded to a domestic violence assault call for service at 4:18 a.m. Tuesday in Charlotte.

The report states that upon arrival officers spoke to the victim, who advised that she had been physically assaulted and threatened by Hardy. The victim also stated that she and Hardy had been in a relationship since September 2013.

Police obtained warrants for an arrest on Hardy. According to police Hardy turned himself in Tuesday and went before the magistrate, no bond has been issued.

Hardy, the team's sack leader in 2013, is in the midst of contract negotiations. The Panthers have used their franchise tag on Hardy, which means that unless another deal is reached by July 15, he would be paid $13.1 million for 2014 and become eligible for free agency the next year.

Glad I waited a couple days for Facts to start coming out. He called 911,stating she was out of control, when police show up he gets arrested. Enough inconsistencies to give him a benefit of a doubt considering there is no other history of violence. Sounds like drunk altercation and now she wants paid so far.

ummmm - not the smartest move when trying to negotiate a new contract.

But - it's the NFL - where murderers get away scott free and become Hall of Famers (yep - talkin' about you Ray Lewis)

I think the Panthers will be able to get him at a better price now.

Maybe she said something he didn't like! We don't know the whole story here...

Too bad he will probably only miss a game or two. He actually broke the law but wont face any real consequences.

It's the NFL, you can kill people driving drunk and keep your job. Nothing but a bump in the road for him. For most of us, we would lose our jobs, reputation and much more.
