I wonder what Cam's passing number would look like if he had 100 more passing attempts.
mittnfriends Nov 18, 2:00 p.m.
Tom Brady -
the best QB in the league
arguably the GOAT
having the best season of his career
600 more total yards than Cam
5 more total TD's than Cam
Cam's top weapon is his stud TE, Greg Olsen
Tom's top weapon his all-world TE, Rob Gronkowski
mittnfriends Nov 18, 1:55 p.m.
Your shifting the argument to QBR shows you're reaching.
I've noticed you finally giving Cam some of his due respect this year, but you're still stuck on worrying about some of the wrong things. Whether it be the benign dancing or ESPN's made up stat of QBR.
Case in point; "Cam should start focusing on that QBR, 31st in the NFL". He is, without a doubt, a top 5 QB in the NFL. That doesn't mean he will have gaudy stats in the traditional QB categories. It means he is something we've never seen before.
It is a culture shock to a lot of people. Whether it be the mistakes he made as a 19 year old, his race, his unwavering celebratory nature, his non-traditional QB style; there still exists a steady wave of petty and unfounded criticism.
In the same breath, you mention "solid rushing attack"; well, Cam is the second leading rusher on the team and has scored the most rushing TD's.
Toddler10-21 Nov 18, 12:41 p.m.
I was upset with Antonio Brown doing a flip Sunday. Antics like that can cause injuries and I'm sure Tomlin let him know about it. As for Cam I agree with him if, "If you don't want me dancing keep me out of the end zone. I myself wish guys would just give the ball to a fan or give it back to a ref and act like you have been there before. I wonder if Cam would dance back during the Lambert, Mean Joe, LT, Deacon Jones, Butkus, Lott, days? Football was so different during the good ole days.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 18, 6:26 a.m.
+1, D.....I'm pulling for the Panthers and hope they win a SB. They've been here since the mid '90s and have had 5 winning seasons in 20 years. Hope they do well. However, it's one thing for a player to celebrate a big TD in the heat of the moment, or display a natural emotional reaction, versus the rehearsed stuff we see after every TD. No interest in the fake, MEMEME stuff.
It's wasted energy, imo, and Cam should start focusing on that QBR, 31st in the NFL. Last I checked, the guy in Cleveland had a higher QBR. If not for a strong D, a solid rushing attack, and a 9-0 record, this is heading in a different direction.
sweet D Nov 18, 5:55 a.m.
not sure where you got "regressive" about the observations made, as they have nothing to do with performance or results
i simply think some of the celebrating is contrived and not as spontaneous as i would prefer it to be, since i dont have a problem with celebrating...i am an old White Shoes fan, who was one of the originals for me
as usual, winning cures all....i believe folks might look at this topic differently if the panthers were 4-5
is it the act of a td, itself, that makes it worthy of a celebration?
if the cats were getting rolled 37-7 with a minute to go in the game, and Cam scored on a plunge, would it be cool to do an extended, elaborate celebration? sure, its his prerogative, but how would that really look?
is it ok if you openly celebrate a personal achievement while the team is getting beat? if you are 9-0 and beating another opponent handily, on the other hand.......
bishopdiamond5 Nov 18, 5:23 a.m.
One more thing about your, "Dancing is entertainment" comment. Mitt, if I want to watch others dance, I'll watch, "Dancing with the Stars", or go to the nearest nightclub. I've yet to hear the nearest dude remark, "Ya know boys, I can't wait to see Cam score so I can watch him dance." I played sports because I enjoyed competing against others and I watch sports for similar reasons...the competition involved, not the dancing. No offense, Mitt, but I don't care to watch players dance. I'll take an order of competition with the excitement of winning and playing well on the side, and hold the fake celebrations (dancing).
bishopdiamond5 Nov 17, 8:21 p.m.
Agree with the maturity comment for the most part.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 17, 8:18 p.m.
With all of that said, I'm one of those fans who didn't care for #1 on arrival. However, I've been following the Panthers more closely, along with Cam over the last couple of years, and have to admit that he has matured tremendously, is doing an outstanding job in the big scheme of things, and brings a "kid's" excitement to the game, which is great. I know he's doing a lot of good things away from the field, as well as on. Just didn't care for the extended celebration but there are greater tragedies in the world.
Takes time for some and he's getting there. He doesn't owe anybody an explanation aside from the Big Cat and his teammates, and as long as they're winning, it's not an issue for them I would think. Dude, I've actually warmed up to Cam because of the progress he's made. He's doing a fine job when it comes down to it and he's only going to get better.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 17, 8:08 p.m.
I knew I could bring you back. lol
Watched Favre for years and saw him jumping around at times while making his way to the sidelines. That is a little different than standing in the middle of a D while engaging in an extended celebration. It wouldn't be a big deal if it were a quick celebration and he just moved on, but that's not what happened. But hey, don't take my word it. Ask the Titans players, coaches, and fans.
As for Brady, I've seen him get animated many times but that is due to his passion for winning, imo. And who hasn't chewed on an official at some point in the NFL? I'm not a Brady fan but the only time I recall seeing him jawing or showing up an opponent is when said opponent starts it with him. I don't blame him in certain situations. And don't try and tell me Favre showed up his opponents...he was just the opposite unless an opposing player ticked him off. Continued....
mittnfriends Nov 17, 5:09 p.m.
"if Cam was not on the panthers, i imagine most panther fans would not like the antics, at all
no need to excuse the antics just because you might be a panther fan".
I'm certain you are speaking the truth in regards to the hypocrisy of some; but, I can assure you there is absolutely nothing wrong or immature about an athlete dancing to celebrate their hard-earned accomplishments.
Perhaps y'all should take a step back and ask yourself why you find a participant in a violent game dancing to be regressive?
It's not for everybody (Russell Wilson), but that doesn't mean it's wrong. Cam has done this probably since he was a little tike. Nevertheless, he has continued to mature into a fine upstanding citizen, an outstanding QB, and the Panthers' franchise has reaped the benefits as you their record plainly indicates.
mittnfriends Nov 17, 5:00 p.m.
B, do I need to remind you again that sports are entertainment? Dancing is entertainment. Cam's dancing is never vulgar. He's always done it .Happy people tend to display emotions of their happiness.
Arguably the greatest QB of all time, Tom Brady, has been known to go psycho in his TD celebrations and in berating referees. Brett Favre was praised by the media for his youthful exuberance as he ran around the field celebrating. So, please tell us more about the other accomplished QB's and what your standards are for a leader of a team that plays a GAME. But, don't think your shallow argument won't get "discount double-checked".
teej1 Nov 17, 10:03 a.m.
Hey, if you don't want to see Cam celebrate, stop him. Did he go a bit overboard on that last td against the Titans? Yep. Does it really matter? Nope.
No flag, no foul. Deal with it.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 17, 6:35 a.m.
+1.....I hope they do well and I really want to support 'em 100%, & then I see that garbage. There are many others who are far more accomplished and have SB rings/MVPs to show for it. Not what you want from your "leader". He seems to do a lot of good things, only to take a step back with that stuff. smh
sweet D Nov 17, 5:01 a.m.
yep, its getting to the point where he is going out of his way to celebrate
starting to be a little contrived, and juvenile
if Cam was not on the panthers, i imagine most panther fans would not like the antics, at all
no need to excuse the antics just because you might be a panther fan
just play the game, and keep winning
bishopdiamond5 Nov 16, 7:00 p.m.
#1 needs to tone down the excessive celebration stuff. Let's not get carried away. Besides, he's gonna hurt his neck if keeps that up.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 15, 7:39 p.m.
Nice W by the Big Cats. Cam was pretty much flawless in the 1st half, had a great game throwing the ball (21 of 26 for 217), Olsen had a great game as well, as did Stew, and Ginn had a solid effort that should have been better. Panther's D played outstanding.
20 straight games rushing for over 100 yards as a team, nice win streak going.
Hated to see Ginn lose his TD & glad to Deekson (lol) get him a TD (#84).
Nice grab by #88 late.

How long has Joe Webb been playing football? It's bad enough to block a guy in the back but even worse when the guy has no chance to make the play. Hope that doesn't come back to haunt them. Good Lord!!!
Let's try this again.....no blocking in the back!

Hats off to Josh Norman for wearing red, white & blue cleats recently to salute the troops. He was fined $5000 for displaying the words "proud & brave" on his cleats. Ya gotta be kiddin' me.....talk about the NFL getting it wrong.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 11, 9:51 p.m.
Nice move by the Panthers to honor military members last Sunday. Nice touch with the helmets as well.
SB 50 - Panthers over Pats
bishopdiamond5 Nov 8, 10:25 p.m.
Anybody else hear about the Cheeseheads who reported Cam to the police for "stealing" their GB banner?
If you want to hang a banner without somebody taking it, it's probably not a good idea to hang it in the opposition's house. Take it back to GB.....Good Lord!!!
bishopdiamond5 Nov 8, 10:01 p.m.
Nice W by the Panthers.
On the positive side, Cam threw for 297 yards, ran for 57 yards on 9 carries, and accounted for 4 TDs. On the negative, he missed some open receivers and threw a pick with about 4 minutes to go that could have been costly, but the Panthers held.
Olsen was Olsen, Captain America has returned to form (9 hits), Cotchery made a nice contribution today, Stewart had to grind his way to 66 yards on 20 carries (3.3 ypc),
& the D put pressure on #12 when it mattered most. Huge pick at the end by TD to pretty much end it. Nice game by Tillman also.
Cam isn't going to complete 60 plus % of his passes like a Rodgers or a Brady but it doesn't matter. He gets it done in a different way while utilizing his wheels. Plus, he made several big throws today, a couple of 'em over 50 yards, and had some nice runs to go with it. Aikman hit the nail on the head when he commented that Cam has been making the plays he needs to make late in games...home field looking good after today

We're approaching the end of 2015 and Cam and company are 12-1 in their last 13 games, including a playoff win. It's been nearly a whole calendar year since they lost a regular season game.
Dam n, I love being right.
Toddler10-21 Nov 5, 12:24 p.m.
Norman is a heck of a player. Did anyone notice that he held TY Hilton to just one catch? Wish we had him. B our young defense has done it's job so far. It's the offense that hasn't been consistent. I know Ben, Bell, Bryant, and Pouncey have been out, but we really should be sitting at 6-2. Vick didn't play bad in his starts. Beat the Chargers and should have beat the Ravens. Oh well back to scoreboard watching.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 5, 6:36 a.m.
Cam vs Luck.....who shall I take?
7-0 > 3-5
bishopdiamond5 Nov 4, 10:00 p.m.
Well, it's the Steelers and you can't keep them down long. A winning tradition....
bishopdiamond5 Nov 4, 9:58 p.m.
Mitt, I like Norman and the edge he brings for the most part. Just don't want to see 'em get hurt in a close game in the playoffs, especially if they're on the road. He's a heck of a player and having a great season. Agree with ya about Cam's passing. However, given some of the other things he does so well, it's not necessarily a big deal. He moves 'em when he has to. They're not 7-0 without him, and if the season ended today, #1 should be MVP, imo. It's nice to see folks excited about the Panthers...already looking forward to the playoffs. And yes, we touched on the Norman thing last season.
Toddler10-21 Nov 4, 7:57 p.m.
B I hate those throwback uniforms. We usually win when wearing them, but not this time.
mittnfriends Nov 4, 7:19 p.m.
"nearly half of his first half passes were off target"
Cam is making a lot of things happen because he's that once in a life time QB, but he has to be more accurate with his passes this season or this receiving corps will be the death of this team. He's a better passer than people give him credit for, but he doesn't have the luxury of inconsistency with this group.
Didn't we go over this last season about Norman? Unless he's racking up penalties, there's no reason for him to change his attitude; it's competitiveness. And, I don't think that attitude negatively affects the locker room like Smitty's did.
bishopdiamond5 Nov 3, 10:10 p.m.
The Lake Tahoe Terror did have a bad game, but what's up with those uni's? The Steelers looked like yellow jackets running around. The Panthers are doing what they have to do to win. Cam's comp. % could be a little higher (54%) but he's making the plays when he has to. The Panthers are top 5 against the pass, top 10 overall D. They're running the ball well (#3).
Luke & TD are 2 of the best in the game, Short is playing well, Norman looks good although he needs to tone it down a little, & Allen should help.
Toddler10-21 Nov 3, 1:07 p.m.
Panthers 7-0! Congrats! Cam is second to Brady for MVP right now? Just win games. Forget about Stats. The only stat that matters is the scoreboard. As usual my Steeler's have me scoreboard watching. Bengals game was on you Ben, (3 picks)!!!
tbraker700 Oct 30, 10:27 p.m.
Where did that Panthers crowd get to?
Figured there would be some chatter given the run they are on. The Panthers should be 7-0 heading into their showdown with the Packers, a game that could determine home field later.
joebobtater Oct 26, 6:31 a.m.
Nice W by the Panthers. Glad to see Stewart hit the 100 yard mark, Allen get a sack, & Tolbert have a good game. Defense did a nice job as usual. Cam had the 3 picks, not all his fault. Glad to see 'em 6-0.
Dreamchaser Oct 25, 11:30 p.m.
Did you see his name? LOL
The ABUSER Oct 25, 3:10 p.m.
Fair enough. Kudos for having the stones to step up and admit you were wrong. Cam ain't the greatest of all time, but he's the best the Panthers have ever had. And there are a whole lot of other teams that would love to have him.
joebobtater Oct 20, 9:20 p.m.
Something else.....Cam is a big fella, hard to bring down, and has the ability to extend certain plays, and that stuff makes a difference. I think he's doing an outstanding job when it comes down to it. Glad to see Luke back as well & Josh Norman is fast becoming one of the best corners in the NFL...big W over Seattle.
joebobtater Oct 20, 8:46 p.m.
+1...better late than never.
joebobtater Oct 20, 8:44 p.m.
Preach, T! I'm with ya 100%. Cam's passing numbers could be a little better but he's getting it done when it matters most (TD to pick ratio is fine @ 2 to 1), and is a big reason they're 5-0. Stats don't matter as long as they're getting it done on the scoreboard. Would like to see Stewart get his ypc up to 4 & up. D looks good. Glad to see 'em in first. Would love to see the Panthers take down GB later...eventually get home field in the playoffs.
***I watch a lot of the Panther's stuff during the week and folks don't hear about the good things Cam does, and some of the other players as well. Good stuff - I'm a fan.
BTW, it's Bishop, man....lol....hope all is well.
Toddler10-21 Oct 20, 12:23 p.m.
The only stat that matters is 5-0! What's wrong with winning ugly? I'm sure a lot of QB's will love to be 5-0. Rivers had a great game (500 yards and it wasn't his fault), but lost. I don't hear Peyton complaining and his numbers are worse than Cam's!! Just win!! TEAM game!!
dukeblue82 Oct 20, 8:57 a.m.
OK, after 4 years I can admit I was COMPLETELY wrong about Cam Newton. He has been very impressive in his young career, especially this year with basically no WR help. I can't believe this thread is still active.
tarheelfan66 Oct 20, 12:12 a.m.
I like Cam better with every win! lol
20-36 55.6% 269yds 1TD 2INT QBR of 49.5 BUUUUT.....
5-0! Baby! I doubt he improved his standings in the stat category anywhere, but he did move the Panthers to 5-0 and in first place all alone. Their O-line? eeeh, WR's? aaaah, RB's hmmmm, QB? well...5-0!!! In the end the only stat that matters.
mittnfriends Oct 18, 11:52 p.m.
As of 10/18...
- who has one of the worst, if not the worst WR corps in the NFL?
- who has, besides himself, one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL?
- who has his team off to a 5-0 start and a 9 game regular season winning streak?
you got, SuperCam Newton.
No one is claiming he's Tom Brady and I promise you he is criticized unfairly way more often than he's given due credit. This thread is a testament to that.
To your credit, you don't come off as a hater.
The ABUSER Oct 18, 8:09 p.m.
What an absolute EMBARRASSMENT to mankind.
The ABUSER Oct 18, 3:53 p.m.
This MORE on will never show his face on this thread again.
But he will continue to be MOCKED repeatedly.
tarheelfan66 Oct 11, 10:42 p.m.
Cam is the QB of a 4-0 team. Cam brings a lot to the table for defenses to worry about and has exceeded most people's expectations, but as of 10/10 who is
25th in passing yards?
23rd in yards per attempt?
31st in yards per game?
21st in QB rating
and last but not least...
32nd in passing percentage???
You got it, Cam Newton. I'd rather have Cam than several other QB's but let's not paint him to be something he is not. Cam does have his short comings.
joebobtater Sep 30, 6:37 a.m.
joebobtater Sep 30, 6:36 a.m.
In fairness to dukeblue, Duke fans & football don't exactly go together. Cam and the Panthers are doing just fine. Glad to see them add Allen. The 4-3 will be a much better fit for #69 & his 134 career sacks (top 10). Looking forward to Luke getting back as well.
Regarding Cam, he's doing a heck of a job. Wouldn't mind seeing him up his completion % a little bit but given what he does with his wheels, not a big deal. The Panthers have the right guy behind center and wouldn't be surprised to see them make a SB run.
