And they have revisionist history on Cowher. He was once about to get fired from Pittsburgh but the Rooney's were compassionate and understanding.

Rivera saved his job with this huge turnaround. He will get a few more years and a raise. Cam is finally growing up.

Dick Vermeil comes to mind that retired and came back to win a superbowl.

Whatever dude. I will stick by my statement that he will not coach pro football again. If he does, I will bow down gracefully and admit I was wrong. Till then, get over it. AND, IF he does, statistics say he will fail. Remember George Seifert, Jimmy Johnston, Mike Ditka, Bill Parcells, etc? You got an example of a former Super Bowl winning coach that retired and came back to win another? Well, do ya?

And since you have forgot more than I'll ever know, I guess you do know that the Bills, Texans, Eagles, Chargers, Bears, and Browns amoung others contacted him this year for an interview and he turned them down. Hum, for a washed up coach that sure is alot of teams just wasting their time. The Dolphins were the first team to show interest, but he let them know from the beginning that he wasn't interested, so they never requested an interview. He will return to coaching within the next 3 years. His daughters are in college now, which is why he retired to spend more time with his family, so he will be back within the next few years. Man, I sure wish you would remember all of that stuff you have forgot about football, I might could really learn something from you.

I very seriously doubt that you have forgot more than I'll ever know. And you said it correctly, "when he accepts", the decision to coach or not is his, not because he would not have the job if he decided he wanted one.

Yeah dude, I'm serious. And I have obviously forgot more about football than you will ever know. Call me when he accepts a head coaching job. Are you serious?

Are you serious? If you are then you don't know anything about Cowher or football. The only reason Cowher does not have a job is because he retired to spend more time with his family. He has made it clear that at this point he has no desire to return to coaching, if he would decide to return to coaching he would be the first name on any teams list as head coach. The only reason he doesn't have a job as head coach is that he doesn't want one, if and when the time comes that he decides that he wants to return to coaching, every team looking a coach will offer him enough money to make him the highest paid coach. It would be an all out bidding war between the teams. He rebuilt the Steelers program and he left it in great shape. He sure wasn't washed up when he retired and retired as a personal decision, not because of his lack of coaching ability.

Bill Walsh would be super. But he is as washed up as Cowherd and Chuckie. That's why neither have a head coaching job. Period!

Well bud, it's not going to happen in the year 2013. Hopefully Rivera will turn the team into a playoff team this year and we wont want two coaches that haven't coached in years.

Didn't NC State just hire a new head coach? Yes they did, so I do not believe he will be going there @Scousler Make sure when you post something you give credit to the person you are quoting. You are taking credit for somebody elses words as you own like its your opinion. I read that article on SI or ESPN. You just copied and paste and posted as your own writing.@ken d... Bill Cowher didn't inherit a good team when he took over the reigns. He built Pittsburgh back into a consistent playoff team. He had a losing team when he was named Coach. If Bill is going to coach again, Its time to come back to the game. He will have the backing and all from Jerry Richardson. He isn't in the best health, since he did just get a heart transplant but I am sure just as he said, Newton is his last quarterback, he will have a winning coach in Charlotte. Bill is a winner and he will not tarnish his legacy in Carolina. He will add to it and bring us that Superbowl we have have come oh so close to winning. I do hope Richardson fire Rivera and Go after Bill, if Bill doesn't come back......My next choice to take over my favorite team is Jon Gruden. He will bring the intensity and establish a winning tradition we so desperately need.@Banned by Sissies.....Washed up...game passed him by....he retired as a Superbowl Champion. He could have had 2 Superbowl rings but he left Pittsburgh in great shape to make Superbowl runs after he left. That's what Bill built in Pitt.

Bill Cowherd is washed up. That's why he doesn't have a coaching job. If he takes one of the 7 positions available, I will eat my hat.

There is more to winning in the NFL than just the head coach. Cowher was fortunate to have inherited a situation in Pittsburg with a long tradition of success, and excellent ownership and front office management. With that behind him, he was able to make the playoffs two-thirds of the time. Could he do that with the Panthers? Nobody can tell. Could he even win consistently at NC State?

Reputation wise, as a coach he would have nowhere to go but down. He now has a great job, and a great life. Why trade that for the torture chamber that is NFL coaching?

  • Pack pride lead investigator Dec 30, 2012

He won't take the job. My research and conversations with State fans has proven beyond a doubt that he is just waiting for the right time to coach State.

Retread coaches in the NFL aren't always as successful in their second go round. I cite Bill Parcels, Joe Gibbs, to name a couple. Be careful what you wish for. Bill Cowher maybe the Panther's answer for a good head coach IF he brings the same intensity and commitment to excellence he had with the Steelers. Everything currently points to the fact that he is very content not to be an NFL head coach, so not sure what his level of enthusiasm would be for a return.

yes i think bill is the man for the job period! he will turn things around in a hurry he will get the players to believe in themselves again and play even harder than they play now.

  • PanthersFan45 Dec 26, 2012

I think Cowher would be a good fit given the fact he makes his home in Raleigh and he is a great motivator. The Panthers have appeared at times as if they lack motivation. Cowher also will use some gadget plays, but he's mainly a conservative guy who seems to favor smash-mouth football. I was calling for Riveras head much of the season, but I think he will get 1 more year to prove himself ........ especially if they finish 7-9 w/a win in New Orleans. Hurney was the guy who pushed hard for giving Rivera a chance and he's gone so I will say I WOULD NOT be surprised if River is let go after the season is over.

Can you as a fan sit through another Rivera led season? With the talent we have, there is no way we should have a mediocre season, let alone losing seasons. Its really sad, our fan base gets excited about a winning streak at the end of a losing season. That is not acceptable to me. I expect ten win seasons every year and be mentioned as a Superbowl contender on ESPN. All this talk about Rivera may have saved his job by winning some games, well, a losing season in my book, is a losing season and when is that acceptable to anybody? Are we as a franchise settling for an atmosphere of 6-10 or 7-9 seasons as a success or a springboard for better seasons to come.....well, I don't buy into that reasoning at all. I want to win now and I want to go to the playoffs now and I want to win the Superbowl now. How does Cincy, Indy, Seattle and Washington for God's Sake go to the playoffs in one year's time after horrible stinking seasons and we continue to have the same mediocre seasons. They made changes and we all saw changes in progress for the better for those teams. We made changes but it wasn't for the better.....we regressed for the worse and our talent level played to our coach's level.....subpar.....I am drained as a fan and psl holder. To praise this winning streak the panthers are on just shows how far this franchise has fallen from our winning ways, when winning streaks were the norm. Its so upsetting that these guys on the team actually feel good about themselves because they think they have accomplished something when in reality they are nothing but a big letdown to our entire fan base. They should be pushing themselves to get better because every member on this team is a loser in my book for making us go through another losing season again.

Fire Rivera and staff. Mr Jerry Richardson, its time to bring in Coach Bill Cowhler. He is living in the state of North Carolina. His family lives here. We all know he has that itch back to coach again. Give him full power. Make him General Manager too. Just get him here !!! He is a proven winner. Our franchise has more of a losing than winning history. Bring Coach Cowhler To Charlotte to turn our proud franchise around. The fans are drained from all these losing seasons. We don't want no up and comer or the next best thing, etc. We want the man who we have had our eyes on for years and its time for you to pull out the checkbook and give him the power to bring us that superbowl championship team you promised us back in 1993. We need Bill Cowhler. Make it happen !!!!!
