get fox out! get bill cower in. simply as that. we will never be a powerhouse football team until that happens. anyone else agree on this ? we have a great team we need a couple of good recievers to help take the heat off steve smith a good qb then we can be a force in the nfl again. and most of all have someone making good play calls.

I agree 100%.. The teams around Jake have made him appear to be better. Think about it. With the running game and the D (as long as they aren't having to trot back on the field after a pick) if we had a top QB I believe the Panthers would have at least two superbowls by now

As long as the football stadium in Charlotte is filled to capacity with loyal fans and the cash register jingles every Sunday, why should the owners and management go to the expense of acquiring Garcia. Think about what I just wrote and you'll come to the same conclusion.

The Panthers mortgaged their future with the Peppers debacle, and won't be able to get a known quality QB any time soon. I like Jake a lot and he can talk intelligent football; unfortunately, talking hasn't translated into playing intelligent football. Steve Smith has made Jake look better than he really is for years, but now even Smitty can't catch the overthrows Jake launches at him. The players most likely to catch Jake's passes are the ones not wearing a Panthers uniform.

Unfortunately, The Panthers don't have a good replacement for Jake. They will have to ride out the season where they may not win another game. Jake aned John will be gone at the end of the season, and I hate that it's come down to this. But in the NFL (Not For Long), losing won't be tolerated. I only hope that Smitty and others don't get so discouraged and disgusted that they ask to be traded.

Fox continues to exclaim how Jake is the best QB, but I find that somehow laughable. I thought Matt Moore looked fairly decent in his starts in '07 (and record of 2-1 in three starts), and was certainly better than Mr. Mittens (Carr). But he didn't start until Fox allowed an old Vinny Testaverde to take a beating for several weeks straight. Perhaps there is some sort of friction between John Fox and Matt Moore that causes Fox to continue to march Jake out onto the field; turnover, after turnover, after 3 and out, after turnover. It doesn't make any sense to play a struggling veteran, when you could at least use the time developing a young player which could wind up being better for you in the long run. After all some players play better than they practice, and vice versa.

    C'mon Fox! Start Matt Moore!

That's like replacing one problem with another, I am personally tired of the 'problems'. There are too many ethical, good athletes that would be grateful for a chance to play for us to choose a has-been convict.

exactly...... run the wildcat over and over and over again. We don't fumble nearly as much as we throw interceptions.

The Panthers should start a new offensive trend in football --- no quarterback.

anybody but jake. after this season it won"t matter because fox will be gone, and Cower will definitely make a QB change.

is Ryan Leaf still available?? would we notice a difference? lol

i love tebows fire and passion and hardnose style at Fla. but,i believe miami is the only place tebow would have success in the NFL, he`s perfect for thier style of offense. do not believe he`ll have a promising career on any other team.

Get Vick and send Delhomme away. Tebow needs to go to Miami.

I've said (over and over to my family) from day one that Delhomme does not have the talent of a starting QB. Why the Panthers have failed to see that over the years, I have no idea. It's so obvious that in order to win the Super Bowl, you need to have a strong QB. With the talent on the Panthers team, they should have won a Super Bowl long ago. Unfortunately, there's not much to be done this year due to the mismanagement of personnel. Jake should be benched for one of the other options. That's what would occur for any other player given the type of performances he has given.

After this season, Fox should be fired. A new coach should be brought in that understands the importance of the QB position. Shoot...Jake could even be kept as a backup...he's decent in that role...or has been in the past. With what he's done this year, it'll be hard to get any confidence back to be productive going forward.

The first thing is to get rid of Fox. If he can't see that a QB is needed, well Panthers need a set of new eyes. Get rid of Delhomme, If a rookie was in his spot you have room to let him learn from his mistakes. He's being paid a whoooole lot of money to keep throwing the ball away!

  • Newshound Oct 27, 2009

bench him asap and just run direct snaps to the backs. the backs are carrying the offense anyway. find some big wide receivers to help handle run blocks.

True. QB's like big Ben don't come around that often. Rarely do they come in and take off to be a star.

  • kennywalters Oct 27, 2009

First, I don't think there's anything to be done that will salvage this season unless it comes from the current roster. Any free agent QB brought in, will have to learn the playbook which will limit the play calling significantly. Moore probably knows the playbook the best, so he should probably get the call once the Panthers decide to give up on the season or possibly sooner. If Moore can come in and limit turnovers, then that may be enough for the Panthers to be competitive with their defense and running game.

For the future, veteran free agents probably aren't the way to go unless someone's contract has just run out. Most of your FA quarterbacks are just castoffs that teams didn't want anymore. Kind of what Delhomme will be if the Panthers jettison him after this season. If you draft a QB, then you're looking at a time length in developing him to be the man, unless you're lucky and get someone like Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, or Peyton Manning (good luck w/ no 1st round pick).

I have a great idea. You become GM of the Panthers. I become GM of the Redskins, then I'll trade you a 5th rounder for Smith since he's so bad in your eyes......

Team/player management has really gotten themselves into a bad situation. They should have selected a good quarterback seasons ago. Delhomme has never been a good quarterback, relying on the greatness of Steve Smith to pull him through game after game yet taking all the credit. Now this season all the pieces are starting to fall apart and for once the magnifying glass is on the QB. Not only should the Panthers bench him but they should banish him from the team if they know what's good for them. he doesn't have the character or the knowledge to help mentor any up and coming quarterback so get rid of the anchor that has been holding the offense down for so long.

I agree. Garcia is still out there. We should have grabbed him as soon as the Eagles cut him. He's an old QB but I doubt Jake's backups can carry this team.

The draft may be the only option. The best thing the Panthers could have done is tried to sign Peppers and trade him for Cutler back in march but hindsight is 20/20. Maybe give Moore the chance for the remainder of this year and see what shakes out in the draft or free agency. Either way qb is gonna be a problem for a few years because I doubt the Panthers will sign a big name free agent and a rookie qb will take time. Couple that with the fact that you never know what you really are getting with a qb in the draft until he plays...

The 'back office' in Charlotte has rolled the dice far too long in not aquiring another solid QB, and now they are paying the price for it. Hey, for what its worth, why not let Feeley or Moore go and go get Grossman? At least he likes to (and can) throw it downfield...and he certainly wouldn't be doing any worse than Jake is now. Don't get me wrong, I like Jake a lot and think that he should still be our #1 QB. However, if we put someone in that will probably do worse that Jake is right now, what have we done other than step backwards?

im sticking my same decision... pick up garcia and maybe salvage this season.
    then draft bradford or pike.

You are insane dude. Smith is a superstar. He has not had help in the receiving game and Jake has seen his better years. I like Jake, but I hate losing like this. Our D played their tails off. Our running game was punishing. We lost b/c of Jake this time. No excuses. I would never say bench a guy b/c of 1 or 2 games. Jake has commited like 21 turnovers in 7 consecutive games. You cannot, and will not win in the NFL with that stat. The truth hurts, but Jake needs to be benched. Give Matt Moore the start and see how he developes. He's not a star, but never will be without a legitimate chance.

he should've been fired long ago, but these people, you people, seem to think he'll have some revelation at some point! his days are over and the sooner you get rid of him the sooner you can start the 3 year losing streak and rebuilding effort.
Steve Smith should go too, he sucks!

I think Feeley or Moore should be given the opportunity. We may already have the quarterback we need. I also think there needs to be some replacements in offensive play calling. Why, on 4-n-1, run the ball up the gut with 10 guys on the D-line? Doesn't Jake have the option to audible? Or, does he know how to read the defense? Maybe those things need to be considered as well. Not just how many interceptions/fumbles he has. Jake is a good leader, but his judgement and decision making is lacking. If he is not able to audible, then change the play caller in the booth. Both the Panthers and Hurricanes don't know how to score, or at least don't sense the urgency to score.

The biggest problem is Carolina hasn't developed a quarterback to replace Delhomme. The Panthers have had chances to get QBs in the draft but haven't done so. Carolina doesn't have a No. 1 pick in 2010 - it was traded to San Francisco in the Everette Brown deal - but does have its second-, third- and fourth-round picks. The Panthers have to take a hard look at a QB this time.
