Clausen is not a quick learner as witnessed by the
Chicago debacle. We may be in line for a very high draft pick this year if we haven't given it to someone else in a trade.

What happened to the OL? We can't block or open holes for the running game. And when did J-Stew become a finesse runner?? He dances around too much this year. He is supposed to be our power runner. Run up the field and hold on to the ball!

    1. It is not Matt Moore persay. Its John Fox. He is TOO CONSERVATIVE. Everyone knows the panthers scheme. RUN, RUN, PASS. Enough is enough. Let Davidson call the plays. Thats what he is there for. You have to take risk to win a football game. You can't always play the entire game like you have a big lead with two minutes to go. Fox has got to go now this week. Jerry go and beg Bill Cowher to come to Carolina.
    2. Are offensive line stinks. Even with out the injuries they would still stink. Please try to trade for a improvement.
    3. You can not draft a ton of rookies to improve your roster vacancies, and hope and pray they do. Im not saying you can't develop players. Only that you can't do it all at the same time.
    4. There are two things we need. One is a good WR who can counter Steve (Like Terrell Owens or Vincent Jackson). Two is a better QB (Like McNabb or Vick or Rivers). So what is it going to be Jerry Richardson? Are you going to spend the money and make the moves to get us a championship or not?

Go ARManti...he would add a spark to this lackluster offense.Give one of the greatest QB's in college football history a shot! As a ASU Alum I have had the chance to see A. Edwards work his magic on the football field and he knows how to win!

Clausen can be our franchise QB. He just needs more snaps. Our D needs to step up and blitz more on 3rd down. We play awesome D the first 2 downs...but have a bend and then break mentality on 3rd down and long. As for receivers, outside of Smitty we have a couple of promising rookies in Lafelle and Gettis. This year we need to air the ball out some and at least try to make defenses respect Clausen. Then pound the ball.

Maybe they should line up Deangelo in the wildcat and run that.

Clausen had a great drive and passed well at times. They only have one receiver in Smith. Long season. The OL is not cutting it.

I think Pike would be good too...but the with o-line like it is they couldn't win no matter who they had at QB right least Clausen made some good decisions today and didn't make a bunch of forced passes like Delhomme and if we can just teach the O-line to block and the running backs to hold on to the ball

It really doesn't matter who plays. The Panther nation has a lame duck coach this year & it shows on the field in many ways. I feel sorry for the fans, they deserve better than this!

#1 Panther Fan here! i agree. Moore is no better than Delhomme..i'm sure hoping Clausen is the answer..i'm not going to say we need a Qb just yet..please Save the Panthers Clausen..We need ya! and Defense Step up a little.

I am with you there, mike, they can give Clausen a shot as they should, but I believe the best quarterback they have resides in the #3 spot right now.

Why is no one talking about Pike? Claussen didn't show much leadership at ND but Pike won at Cincinnati, where there was no football tradition.

Gonna have to disagree with this. Panthers' o-line is in the top third of the league. Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Romo, and Eli were all sacked more than the Delhomme/Moore combo last year. None of those teams had trouble moving the football through the air.

Granted those teams threw the ball a lot more than the Panthers, and so are bound to get sacked more, but it's not as if we were getting sacked way more than anybody else.

The reason our pass protection doesn't look as good as, say, New England's, or Indy's, or the Saints, is that the defenses playing those teams actually have to respect the QB's ability to complete a pass. If you rush too many guys, or blitz too often against Brady, or Brees, or Manning, eventually they start picking you apart. Neither Delhomme or Moore have displayed that ability the last few years. And that's why other teams start teeing off on our o-line, because they know our QB's can't find the soft spot in the pressure and complete a pass. So they start rushing 5 and 6 guys, and double covering Steve Smith, basically DARING our QB's the throw the ball to Rosario, or Jarret, or whoever, in single coverage. And more often than not, our QB's don't make the right read or the right throw.

Sometimes an o-line is the weak point, and not the QB, and deserves the blame. But sometimes it's the other way around. This would be one of those times.

I agree. Jake and now Moore don't get any protection from the O-line. It's like open season on the Panthers QB's for some reason. I think they should try Claussen and give him some real time at QB AND do something, anything to get the O-line going.

I think a five-game winning season is optimistic. I was never impressed with Moore. He played at the end of last season against some teams who had already qualified for the playoffs, so they pulled their starters part-way through the game. Moore didn't get a real test last season. He just doesn't have what it takes. I hope Claussen is a quick learner.

  • bigdookie Sep 13, 2010

Should have taken Michael Vick when they had the chance. Matt Moore's passes didn't look very strong and he threw into double and triple coverage quite a few times. He looked a lot like Delhomme. I think Clausen would be more of the same. Armanti Edwards is definitely a better option. NY was busting through that O-line like it wasn't there. Lots of concussions to be had it you stand in the pocket with that line...I'm just saying

but thats pat white, we are talking about a different player. somewhere along the lines the quarterbacks have to be mobile these days cauz these young linemen are getting faster and faster..they aint waitn to sit there and wrestle with the o-line, they going around and getn to the qb by all means necessary..and yes the qb has to have some kind of skills also and being able to maneuver when there is a breakdown up front...sit in the pocket if you wanna, and its gonna be sack after sack

Just because a QB dominates in college doesn't mean it's gonna translate to the NFL. Pat White was a monster at West Virginia. He got to the NFL and Pittsburgh hit him so hard he went and signed with the Kansas City Royals. That line could get Edwards killed.

  • deansjam2 Sep 12, 2010

It's the Offensive line. Has been for several years. I don't care who you have at QB, you have to have pass blockers. Panther QB's have had to run for their lives. I'd gladly settle for having Jake back if you can give him minimum protection. Moore is NOT an NFL caliber starting QB.

  • VT1994Hokie Sep 12, 2010

I wrote on another article that Edwards could maybe jump start this Offense. He can pass, and he can run it. I don't care about the rest. Clausen doesn't have any advantage on Edwards. They can line him up in the Willcat/Mountaineer, or take some snaps from center. He is faster than any QB in the NFL. He could beat you with his feet. Look at the total yards that he threw for ASU. He is trying to learn a totally different position at receiver.

He is a QB! What do they have to lose? Give him a chance.

yeah, from the looks of it, delhomme had to have been moore's mentor and he is imitating him so nicely I thought it was jake...if not clausen then edwards for sure but you take a quality quarterback and make him a receiver? its gonna be a long season for this team...smh

Ok, Matt Moore has made it obvious today he is no better than delholmme---throws interceptions like they are going out of style...please, please start Clausen next week because Moore SUCKS! He had an ok little run at the end of last year but most of that was the running game. Anybody think, like me, that a 5 win season might be all the Panthers get?
