Still too early in the draft to say anything but the Cam Newton pick was more of "business" decision than a football one. He will initially help fill up the stadium but I'd be shocked if had more than 2 or 3 games worth of significant impact.

Hoping the Panthers don't completely blow it - still plenty of defensive line and offensive line talent available.

Well, it's a done deal, and I am a loyal fan no matter, so not sure he would have been my choice (because of the baggage, etc.) but now that he is, welcome to the team and I just hope that you turn things around for us!!

I like the comparison. He will be our Vince Young. What a waste of a 1st round pick.

Let's see if he can work hard to be successful. I don't think so. Get use to see him on the headset.

CAM NEWTON IT IS. Panters rolling the dice looking for Snake Eyes. If this does not work they might as well sell the team as there will be too few fans left. Let's see what else they pull out of the hat. The big deals are getting some O Line help, a couple of very good wide receivers, trade Steve Smith, and defensive help. It's not all going to happen next year.

Edwards is not an NFL Quarterback. For his own health and longevity he does not need to go back there. He would get crushed. He is a Spread Offense QB, nothing more. Hopefully he will become an excellent wide receiver. Vince Young has so many issues, like mental balance issues, the Panters don't need those kinds of damaged goods. No one can fix Vince Young and Vince Young is not interested in being fixed.

Did anyone see his "QB school" with Chuckie (Gruden)? He didn't seem to be able to answer his questions either quickly or effectively. That's what I worry about.

I will give you the Jerry Richardson and irrationallity. He needs to get his, and Marty's, hands off the team but that is not going to happen. Edwards was a deer in the headlights last season. He just is not tall enough and if he get's popped real good me thinks he will fold. The game speed seems to escape him.
We do not need Vince Young, AKA someone elses problems. He is a train wreck. Carson Palmer for a year or two may not be a bad idea. Cam has character issues as reported by NFL scouts in the article about the top character issue guys. I would hate to pass on him from a pure talent standpoint, but there has to be another alternative. Cam would get folks excited up until he pulls a Vince Young and destroys the team. I understand the Panthers may trade the pick now.

The Panthers have many holes to fill before they will be a winning team again. However, the number 1 priority is to keep fans interested and fill seats. The only person in this Draft that can help fill seats is Cam Newton. Just imagine an offense with Cam Newton and Steve Smith...

u cannot teach someone to play bigger than they are, it has to already be there. CM has the size and uses it to his advantage.

No. Cam is big on ego....short on talent. Don't need him.

    dtd,

Edwards is an athlete...a playmaker. I'm not an App. St fan/alum but look at what he did. National Champs/beat Michigan.

Edwards is as pure an athlete as Michael Vick...but the ball in his hands and watch him go.

Why draft Newton when we HAVE Edwards? Start Edwards...Shockey, Smith, Stewart, Williams...talk about an offense.

Draft that CB from LSU #1 and build the defense around him.

I agree with bringing in the unhappy Carson Palmer and a restocked O-line - should be a very successful formula. Cam Newton - not ready for prime time and unsure if he ever will be. All a moot point right now - there will be no draft and no football without a CBA. Without a CBA no team has any idea what the status of all the free agents is and without that knowledge no one knows what they really need in the draft.

The NFLPA was decertified and hence the existing CBA made void so players could sue the NFL for anti-trust violations. I think both parties will eventually come to some agreement, losing a whole season of NFL revenue is probably too bitter a pill for both sides to swallow - but right now they are oceans apart. Look for some last minute deal to salvage the season - but that still may be months away - June or July. A draft would only be possible a few weeks after an agreement was reached - with the union restored with a new CBA.

we would be better off bring in vince young for godsakes!!!!
that's what ol' newty will be in about four years....
hell of an athlete but, he is light upstairs..... he will never be able to make pro reads...
In my opinion you could get vince young much, much, much, cheaper if you want to go that route... and young already has experience and wins at the NFL level....
he ain't great but, our quarterbacks are crzap!!!! and i would agree the best qb on the roster runs back kicks and plays the f'n wildcat.....
if this is truly gonna be carolina's pick then they need to go ahead and start making plans to run and option style o with the rbs that they have.... newton is NOT going to beat anybody the first year (or any year in my mind) with the pass.... i vote they trade down and fill NEEDS.... not that qb isn't a need but, we could trade the pick to one of these drooling teams and end up with a middle to late 1st rounder and draft one of the other prospects.... plus we could gain one or two more picks in the 1st or 2nd rounds....

Okay, whatever re: Cam Newton...who cares about him....here's my point: The Carolina Panthers have had one of the best/most effective quarterbacks in NCAA history by the name of Armani Edwards, but they refuse to play him at quarterback...why? I have no idea...the guy is a sure playmaker...why the Panther haven't played him at QB is beyond me...but it seems in line with the irrationality of the owner Jerry Richardson..
