Alright, you are what you are for your career, that logic means Cam is a 400 yeard passer. Goodbye NFL records. Also, what was that about his accuracy? Looks like 25 cent and a strong arm might get you 4 quarters. And keep reading those insider scouting reports, you'll learn alot from them. After all, their opinion would not be bias at all. They would not dare give a bad report on any player because they love all of them.

Our secondary is very suspect. We are weak there. Time for the Panthers to pick up a veteran CB. We really miss Mike Minter at safety. We haven't had a good CB since Ricky Manning Jr. IMHO

The panthers will surprise some folks this year. Any team with a QB that can run like Cam has a fighting chance. Mix in a couple of good TEs and 2 good RBs and our offense should be able to sustain some good drives. Time will tell if Cam will learn fast enough. But, I am a true Panther fan, and I hope the sky is the limit. We have a young and exciting team. Our defense will be young and very aggressive. Blitz!!!!

    Go Panthers!

Here's the plan. Repeat last years 2-15 season, draft Luck, move Cam to... safty? WR? TE? Clipboard holder? IDK what but not QB of the Panthers. I'm so disappointed. The Panthers do not seem to be making progress and they are sooo far from being even decent. Defense...fail, offense..epic fail! Where is a strenght? A player or two are keepers, but everywhere on the team needs upgrading.

Cam had a tough night tonight against a horrible Bengals team. It has been said the 3rd pre season game is the closest to a real game before the season gets under way. Oooff! I understand a rookie QB has a lot to learn, add to it a new coach and staff, as well as a new system you have a perfect storm for a long season. Draft well Panthers! No need to really go after big time free agents yet. Save your bank, get a solid base and go after some top free agents in 3 or 4 years. I hope Cam can grow as a QB over the next 3 years as he is really struggling now.

Me too, but right now it doesn't look too good. Maybe we can pick up some linemen when the cuts come.

I think all will come true for you 93'.

I think IMO you will be surprised a bit by the record. I say 8-8 is the over/under
    Vegas however does not agree

First, I want my PSL seats to regain their value to myself and overall :).

Need Cam to develop quickly, keep injuries to minimum, secondary to somehow try and do well, and both offensive and defensive systems to come around quickly.

    5-7 wins....(better than last year).

Special teams looks very much improved Hokie. And yes, Cam will get it sooner than later. Lets get all the starters together and see what happens. None of this matters until 9/11/11

They have a long way to go based on the second game. Nothing looked good in any phase of the game. The OL and the DL were not in the picture on way too many series. I still think they can win 6 games. I do like the HC and the OC. They just need a lot of work right now. Newton will learn in time to read a D.

I guess I'm one of the naysayers. Hokie, this is a Panther forum. It is NOT reserved for professional football coaches. I have an opinion, you have an opinion, and we are both allowed to post them. If naysayers are required to state their coaching resumes before stating their opinion, do the "Cam is the one" pushers have to also be a current or former professional coach? MANY paid "experts" quarterback evaluators have come down on both sides of the debate. My opinion is the Panthers over valued Cam. He may become a serviceable Pro QB, but I see Cam as more Vince Young, Alex Smith, than Peyton Manning, Tom Brady on the success scale. He can't read defenses and he is not accurate.

It was a pre-season game. Do you want him to come out like Peyton Manning in his first time under the big lights in his Professional debut? I'm not knocking you like some will before this one is taken off of here. I could tell you quite a few more facts though.

I read all of these two times. The naysayers should be down there on the coaching staff since they already know more than some of us on here. Of the many naysayers on the very page...I will ask this question. How many of you ever played in high school, college? How many of you ever coached in Middle school, High school, or beyond? Answer the question before you, please.

Cam Newton isn't a dumb person as some has suggested. I have been stating his positives long before he was drafted. His only kick is a sleezy dad.

For all of those super coaches...(sofa) let him have a darn chance before kicking him to the curb. He will be 2 times better than Clausen. Mark it down. Still. I want to know how many have coached based upon this one article. Then. I'll know a tad more. Anyone can paste and copy.

What I see different is an offense that the players seem to understand. I believe their offensive coordinator, Jeff Davidson, wasn't very good. His offensive was too conservative. I believe Chudzinski, who had the #1 offense at San Diego, will do a much better job. I know this is just the beginning of the season, and the team is still learning the offense, but I saw more creative offense and more understanding of the offense than I saw last year. We have 2 pro bowlers on the offensive line, and some help at TE. I feel better about the offense and the defense than last year. As far as Cam goes, I think the Panthers have 2 quarterbacks that can get the job done and bring Cam along slowly. I feel positive about the offense and the defense. I'm hopping for a better year.

I was originally not a fan of taking scam newton. it seemed like a big risk, but hopefully it will pay off. He looked promising. Go Cats! Sad to hear about losing the original panther though.

Cam made a couple of throws that some have called inaccurate. It was his first game a a pro. Give the guy a break. The same was said about Clausen last year, but he looked like a different QB last night. Cam made a couple of throws last night that may have been completions with the right receiver. Atleast he made throws that were catchable for his receivers, but not catchable by the defender. He showed that he didn't have that run first mentality and stood in the pocket while taking some hits. The overall receiving corp (with the additions of Olsen and Shockey at TE) looks to be much improved, if a second WR steps ups and Edwards didn't look too shabby either. I think a positive attitude will help this team in the long run as well.

I guess the 42% completion rate proved me wrong about his accuracy. My bad.(sarcasim)

He looked great at times, better than I thought he would. Great! Now get the completion % up to NFL averages and he WILL BE SPECIAL at QB with all his other attributes.

Our defense was not bad at all last year and with what has to be an improved offense we will be just fine. I am not saying playoffs this year as we are in one of the best (if not the best) divisions in football, but we will compete and actually make football fun to watch on Sundays as we all know it wasn't last year. I am excited the direction the Panthers are headed. Should any of us expect the playoffs and a super bowl this year? We are coming off a 2 win season, I am thinking 6-7 wins and that is much improved if I am doing my math correct. We are a few years away from playoff appearances, but should not get embarrassed every Sunday like we did last year.
Are you sure you are not a State fan? With your pessimistic views and bloated expectations of a 2 win team you could have fooled me.

You sound like a hater, not a panthers fan. I'm pretty sure that there are lots of qb's that the so called experts said will never make it in the league that has come up to be quality qb. On the flipside there has been outstanding college qb's that have been a zero in the league. They say Cam is the first one at practice and the last one to leave, with this work ethic he can't get anything but better! Give the guy a chance and don't be so quick to judge people. Go Panthers!!!!!

The Panthers as of today were only 1.9 million under the SALARY CAP.And will spend right up to it. In retrospect the Bucs are 29 million under. 5 teams are over and will HAVE TO trade or cut to get under. The SALARY CAP means the limit for which a team can SPEND. By the way the Panthers only gave Cam 22 million.Sam Bradford was the first pick last year and got like 50. (new collective bargain deal). Jerry has spent the bucks the last week and a half. Watch for the Panthers to dramatically improve this season. GO CATS!!!!

Relax dude. The season hasn't even started yet. I'd hold judgement on Cam before you get too bent out of shape. The kid still hasn't even played a down of pro ball (NFL at least). Don't forget that Drew Brees was thought by many to be a bust, prompting the Chargers to take Rivers. Now Brees is one of the elite QB's in the league. Remember to take what you read from "insiders" with a grain of salt. They don't always get it right. The Panthers may still be last in payroll, but you have to find some promise in some of the moves they made. Signing DeAngelo was huge, I had been hearing for a while they were going to let him walk b/c Jerry didn't want to pay him. They also went out and got Olsen, one of the better TE's in the league. I'm not saying they will be contending for the NFC South next season, but it's a move in the right direction.

Based on what? Based on you're a Panthers fan. Me too, but I see nothing that makes me think they have significantly improved. Anywhere.

Go after some top defensive talent. Keep the other teams score low and you've at least got a chance to score on a busted play or two and steal a win until the Panthers can build a team over the next few years. Cam is not the answer. Panthers picking him has set the team back another years. Good news is they should be in a good position for draft picks for the forseeable future. Hopefully in 3-4 years when the Panthers are still picking in the top 3 positions they will be able to pick up a quality QB.

Richardson was beaming that he had finally started to spend money....Well not so fast. Where does the Panthers STILL rank in Payroll? DFL (you figure what DFL stands for). Exciting QB? Yep, check. What does exciting get you? Nada. Lets talk what the QB cannot do, READ A DEFENSE!!! I've read some insider blogs written by guys who scouts players year round, year after year and he says Cam cannot read a defense. He has been at EVERY Panther workout and states Cam is cluelss and is at least 3 years away from being where a winning NFL QB should be. does Cam have a strong arm? You betcha! That and 25 cents will get you a quarter. His accuracy is below average. Accuracy can be enhanced, but you are what you are basically for your career. Terrible offense and a terrible defense to go with a weak special teams and you have what the Panthers are...a 5 win team. Enjoy the season!
