Practice notes: Lineup, line changes and a (brief) word from Semin
Posted March 26, 2013
The Hurricanes have placed Jussi Jokinen and Tim Wallace on waivers.
If Wallace clears, the team will send him to Charlotte. Jokinen makes $3 million and has a year left on his contract after this year. Teams often place a player on waivers to gauge the interest of other teams to see if a trade is possible. Jokinen will stay with the NHL club if he goes unclaimed.
Chad LaRose will be back in the line-up tonight and will be on the second line with Jordan Staal and Jeff Skinner.
LaRose said that the Canes “have to play our style and the game will take care of itself."
Joe Corvo will return to the line-up and be paired with Tim Gleason on the blue line. Brett Bellemore will be matched up with Jay Harrison.
The fourth line will have Tim Brent centering Kevin Westgarth and Adam Hall.
Gleason on the game tonight, “We feel pretty loose, we know it is a big game and we have to take it a period at a time.”
Was there any big speeches?
“I think we’ve talked the last four or five days now. At this point in time talk is out the window. You gotta just do your job. As for me I just kinda have to play as hard as I can do what I can to help the team.”
Justin Peters makes the start in net.
Alexander Semin met with the media to talk about his 5-year $35 million contract extension. It was a brief chat.
Was getting a contract done important? “No, just sign and forget and play hockey.”
On playing for Kirk Muller: ” I like playing for Kirk, he gives me suggestions all the time and supports me.”
What he likes about Raleigh: “No traffic.”
