Rodney Purvis named ACC Rookie of the Week

Posted November 12, 2012

— Freshman Rodney Purvis was selected on Monday as the ACC Rookie of the Week following his 16-point effort in NC State's 97-59 win over Miami (Ohio) Friday night.

In his collegiate debut, Purvis tied for the team lead in points and was one of six Wolfpack players in double figures.

The Raleigh, N.C. native also grabbed two rebounds, handed out one assist and hit on 6-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc.

Maryland sophomore Alex Len was also honored by the league as Player of the Week for his performance in a 72-69 loss to No. 3 Kentucky Friday. Len, a 7-foot-1 sophomore, set career marks with 23 points and 12 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end.

The Antratsit, Ukraine, sophomore hit on 10-of-18 from the floor in 32 minutes and also had four blocks, which matched a career high.

After watching the replay on ESPN3 Saturday, he had a very quiet 16 points, and played very unselfishly. What really struck me was the leadership he showed - as a freshman.

There was one point where Zo got a little ticked about something, and RP was the one to talk to him and help bing him back. Can't remember what Zo was mad about, but the way Purvis handled it really stood out to me.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite players
