QB Boone ready to shine for Blue Devils

Posted March 4, 2013

Anthony Boone

— Duke University began spring football practice Monday.

The Blue Devils will have to replace one of the top passing combos in league history – QB Sean Renfree and wideout Conner Vernon.

New starter Anthony Boone played in 10 games last year, but that was a different offense.

"I was preparing to be the starter, just like any backup player," Boone said. "At some time the guy that was ahead of you is going to graduate and it's going to be your time to shine."

Duke is going to some zone-read to feature the feet of Boone.

Head coach David Cutcliffe endorsed his new starter Monday. "Anthony Boone is entrenched in our system, and he has played well whenever he has played," he said.

I've been looking forward to this day since the day Boone set foot on campus. No offense to Renfree, but I love Boone's mobility and am excited to see what Cutcliffe's QB knowledge coupled with his mobility does on the field with practices 100% dedicated to Boone as the starter.

    Go Duke!

no use getting optimistic, i've been reading the blogs about the juggernaut called fedora, so it would appear that you have no chance, just like in basketball saturday

Even as a Carolina fan, I too am interested in seeing how it will go. Kid has a great upside and it will be interesting to see what Cutcliffe does with a mobile QB. As much as I hate that Duke beat the Heels this past season, it does make it MUCH more interesting and fun to watch when you know the games are going to be competitive. Always looking forward to football season, but even more so this year.

    GO HEELS!
