RailHawks extend home unbeaten streak to 18

Posted May 3, 2014

— The Carolina RailHawks extended their home unbeaten streak to 18 matches Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the New York Cosmos.

In the 12th minute, the RailHawks' (2W-1T-1L, 7pts) Cesar Elizondo collected the ball at midfield and found a streaking Tiyi Shipalane down the left hand side of the field who rebounded an initial save for the lone tally on the night.

The second half was marred by three ejections, two for the RailHawks and one for New York (2W-0T-0L, 6pts). In the 56th minute, Cosmos midfielder Sebastian Guenzatti received a straight red card. Over the next twelve minutes of play, the RailHawks would have two defenders, Connor Tobin and Kupono Low, ejected for receiving their second yellow card of the match in the 63rd and 68th minutes, respectively. For the final 22 minutes of the match the RailHawks defended feverishly to record the shutout, led by goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald.

The RailHawks will take to the road on Saturday, May 10th when they travel to San Antonio.
