Cary, N.C. — The Carolina RailHawks will host Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 24th at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with limited tickets available.
The Galaxy are led by Landon Donovan, the leading goal scorer in U.S. men’s national team and MLS history, who was surprisingly left off the 2014 FIFA World Cup team.
This game will mark the third time the teams have met in U.S. Open Cup play. The RailHawks are 2-0 against the four-time MLS Champions, winning 2-1 in 2012 and 2-0 in 2013.
Carolina is coming off a victory over Chivas USA, another MLS team, in which they won on penalty kicks. The Galaxy are coming off a 2-1 victory over Arizona United SC of the USL Pro league.
“We have a tremendous amount of respect for the Galaxy and know how difficult it will be to defeat them for a third consecutive year,” said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. “It would be a huge achievement and I know our players and coaches are looking forward to the opportunity and challenge. Our goal is to win the U.S. Open Cup and the task will be difficult against this outstanding Galaxy team."
