Chapel Hill, N.C. — North Carolina fell 2-1 to the Carolina Railhawks on Monday night in an exhibition men’s soccer match from Fetzer Field.
Despite a two hour rain delay, the two local soccer clubs put on a fine display of soccer for the fans.
The first half was a fairly even affair with each team recording four shots over the 40-minute session.
The only difference was the 1-0 lead on the scoreboard for the visiting Railhawks. Aaron King netted the goal off a feed from Nick Zimmerman in the 27th minute.
King struck again in the 45th minute to stake the Carolina Railhawks to a 2-0 advantage.
The Tar Heels closed the gap later in the second half when freshman Zach Wright found the back of the net in the 57th minute.
Wright nearly tied the game in the 68th minute when he took advantage of a Railhawk giveaway deep in its own end, but keeper Scott Goodwin, a former Tar Heel All-America, stretched for the save.
North Carolina wraps up its exhibition season on Saturday at Wake Forest. Kick off from Winston-Salem, N.C., is scheduled for 7 p.m.
