Posted August 5

— The Carolina RailHawks acquired midfielder Danny Barrera Tuesday in exchange for Cesar Elizondo via a trade with the San Antonio Scorpions.

Barrera, a Colombia-native appeared in 13 games this season for San Antonio scoring a goal and notching two assists. The 23-year old played collegiately for UC Santa Barbara, where he won the 2009 Big West midfielder of the year award.

“We are excited to add a young and talented player to our squad,” said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. “I’ve been following Danny throughout the years and I know he is capable of scoring goals and creating chances for our team. He will fit really well with our locker room and will be an essential part of our roster as we attempt to win the 2014 NASL Championship.”

Elizondo appeared in 35 matches in his time with the RailHawks starting 29 of them and tallying three goals.

“We would like to thank Cesar for his contribution to the organization during his time with the club,” said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. “We wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors.”

The RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park Saturday to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
