A late goal by midfielder Tiyi Shipalane was all the Carolina RailHawks needed to defeat the Tampa Bay Rowdies 1-0 and earn 3 valuable points on Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium in Florida.
“We are delighted with the win,” said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. “It has been a tough couple of weeks for us losing some heartbreakers at home – we also had a tough time on the road this season, but we now have two road wins in a row. We needed this win and I think we deserved it.”
The first half is one that both team would like to forget as neither team was able to create any dangerous opportunities.
In the 91st minute of play, RailHawks (3W-0T-5L, 9pts) midfielder Tiyi Shipalane scored his fourth goal of the season and seventh against the Tampa Bay Rowdies (3W-0T-3L, 9pts). After receiving the ball from Daniel Jackson, Shipalane unleashed a blast from inside of the Rowdies area that left Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens with nothing to do.
The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, August 30th to face southern rivals, Atlanta Silverbacks, at 7:30 p.m.
