Raleigh native Chesson Hadley shot an 8-under 63 Thursday to position himself second in the first round of the 2013 Rex Hospital Open. He will tee off at 12:20 p.m. in Round 2 Friday.
Hadley downed eight birdies and held a two-shot lead over PGA Tour veteran Lee Janzen when he finished his round about noon. Hadley held the lead through most of the day until Andrew D. Putnam finished with a 9-under 62. Putnam teed off at 12:10 p.m. exactly five hours after Hadley.
Hadley currently ranks eighth on the Web.com Tour’s money list. At the end of the 2013 season, the top 25 players graduate to the PGA Tour. A win in Raleigh this weekend would secure Hadley a spot on the PGA Tour.
The Georgia Tech product has finished in the top six in three of the last four Web.com Tour events and tied a tour record with six birdies and an eagle in nine holes last month in South Carolina.
Hadley attended North Raleigh Christian Academy in high school.
