Raleigh's Dupree sets world mark in 50-meter backstroke

Posted April 25

Three-time Paralympic medalist, and Raleigh native, Tucker Dupree set a world record at the 28th International German Championship Friday in Berlin, besting the previous mark by nine-tenths of a second in the men’s S12 50-meter backstroke.

Dupree, 24, lost his vision at age 17 and is now regarded as one of the top blind swimmers in the world. He was a multiple medalist at the London Paralympic Games.

A Garner High School graduate, Dupree was named to the Athletes with a Disability Hall of Fame in 2011.
