Raleigh's Hadley added to Wyndham field

Greensboro, N.C. — Chesson Hadley, a Raleigh native and six-time top-10 finisher on the Web.com Tour this year, has been granted a sponsor’s exemption into the 2013 Wyndham Open taking place at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro this weekend.
Hadley posted the news on his blog, HadsCorner.com, over the weekend.
“I am very happy about playing again this year and getting revenge on that course,” Hadley wrote. “I didn’t make the cut there last year so I am ready to go play well.”
In 2012, Hadley fired an opening round 68, but followed that up with a 72 on the par-70 course and missed the cut at even par through two rounds. Sergio Garcia went on to win the event at 18-under-par while former NC State golfer Tim Clark finished second at 16-under.
Some other locally tied gofers joining Hadley in the field this year are former NC State player Carl Petterson; former Campbell players Brad Fritsch and David Mathis; former Wake Forest stand-outs Bill Haas and Webb Simpson; former UNC golfers Davis Love III and Mark Wilson; Smithfield native Neal Lancaster and Cary native Ben Kholes.
Former Green Hope High School star Brendon Todd is listed as an alternate. He, like Hadley, missed the cut at last year’s Wyndham after shooting a two-round 1-over-par.
Clark, Petterson, Haas and Love all finished in the top-10 of the event a year ago. Simpson finished tied for 22 with a four-round score of 9-under.
The Wyndham, which gets underway Thursday, is the final event of the season before the PGA playoffs begin. The top 125 players in FedEx Cup points following the event will participate in the first of four field-trimming tournaments starting Aug. 22.
Players among the top of the standings that will be in Greensboro include Brandt Snedekar (3rd), Haas (6th), Boo Weekly (12th) and Jordan Speith (16th). Other notables in the event include Ernie Els, Garcia, Zach Johnson, Rory Sabbatini and Vijay Singh.
