Ravenscroft grad Frazier ready to win at Duke

Ravenscroft High School graduate Wesley Frazier is regarded by many to be one of the best runners in North Carolina history and plans to attend Duke University this fall.
Frazier discovered her passion and talent by accident.
"My dad took our dog for runs every morning,” said Frazier. “I thought it would be fun for me to go with him. We just kept it a habit."
It is now more of a way of life for Frazier. You wouldn't know it from her modest manor, but she's one of the best runners in North Carolina history.
"How many state titles did you win? Um. I think it was like. Let's see," answered Frazier.
In an amazing career, she collected 15 state titles, two state records, and five national titles.
She won the Adidas Dream mile this year, which is one of the most prestigious races a high school athlete can win.
"I was shocked,” Frazier said. “It hurt at first. That was the first feeling. I was really happy with my time."
She won the race with an outstanding time of four minutes and 39 seconds, which is her personal best for a mile run.
"I’ve been wanting to break 4:40 in the mile for a couple of years,” said Frazier. “I felt that was the perfect opportunity."
The runners that finished second and third at the Adidas Dream event were two of Frazier’s good friends, the Meier sisters from Michigan. All three are headed to Duke in the fall to run cross country and track.
"That was a lot of fun because we got to do it like a teamwork kind of thing,” Frazier said. “It was a great experience."
Frazier’s trophy case is already full, but she's hoping to help Duke to the national championship in the future.
