Reports: Hairston, Hood suffer injuries

Posted June 27, 2013

FILE: Rodney Hood, 13, forward, prepares to shoot a free throw at Cameron Indoor Stadium during Duke University’s Countdown to Craziness on October 19, 2012.

University of North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston and Duke University forward Rodney Hood each suffered injuries this week during workouts in preparation for the 2013 World University Games.

According to CBS Sports, Hood injured his Achilles tendon in his right leg Wednesday night during practice and was seen leaving the gym on crutches. The extent of the injury is unknown. The 6-foot-8 Hood sat out last season after transferring from Mississippi State and has three years of eligibility remaining.

According to USA Basketball, Hairston had to withdraw from the team after suffering a back injury during practice Tuesday night. Hairston, who averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals in his sophomore year with the Tar Heels, has yet to be evaluated by the UNC medical staff.

Hairston, in addition to dealing with the injury, is dealing with the legal system after being pulled over in Durham earlier this month. He faces charges of driving without a license and possession of marijuana. There was also a gun found outside the rented SUV that he was pulled over in with two other passengers.

The 2013 World University Games are scheduled to start July 7.

Red Rage... Hood is amphibious too!! He's that good!

  • heavye Jun 28, 2013

P.J. hurt his back trying to bend over and pick up his gun. Thank goodness he is medicating himself for the pain, with the "medicinal", marijuana.

He drove an old car so that proves what? Lying about K knowing .The only one deflecting here is you..No telling what athletic scandal will come next over at the Hill but you'd rather talk about anything other than that.

Hairston is having a bad summer for sure. I think he had back issues last season. I hope he'll be OK. Same for Hood. It's great that these guys play during the summer, but I hate to see them go down with an injury.

Your avoided a scandal by K's normal way.
BTW LT mom didn't have a high paying job. He drove an old car around campus. If she had so much money, why didn't she buy him a car. Typical Dookie. Lie and deflect.

Haha that's your argument..either way he wss with guys with a gun or had the gun himself. In case you weren't aware, Lance Thomas's mom had a high salary paying job and surely you don't think K's dumb enough to be involved, not to mention the NCAA has already cleared it. Keep trying to deflect on others while your athletic program churns out scandal after scandal.

Proof that Hairston had a gun. I'll be waiting for the link. Send it to me when K tells us where the money for the jewelry came from.

You're gonna compare Lance Thomas not paying a bill that he himself put the payment on to Hairston having drugs and a gun? Now who has the red rage.

Hood was able to walk with a slight limp according to the last report. I don't know much about Hairston. He has some issues hanging over his head right now. His back problem may be minor to the other issues in his life. Wishing both the best.
