University of North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston and Duke University forward Rodney Hood each suffered injuries this week during workouts in preparation for the 2013 World University Games.
According to CBS Sports, Hood injured his Achilles tendon in his right leg Wednesday night during practice and was seen leaving the gym on crutches. The extent of the injury is unknown. The 6-foot-8 Hood sat out last season after transferring from Mississippi State and has three years of eligibility remaining.
According to USA Basketball, Hairston had to withdraw from the team after suffering a back injury during practice Tuesday night. Hairston, who averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals in his sophomore year with the Tar Heels, has yet to be evaluated by the UNC medical staff.
Hairston, in addition to dealing with the injury, is dealing with the legal system after being pulled over in Durham earlier this month. He faces charges of driving without a license and possession of marijuana. There was also a gun found outside the rented SUV that he was pulled over in with two other passengers.
The 2013 World University Games are scheduled to start July 7.
