— Duke assistant coach Steve Wojciechowski will be named the next head coach at Marquette University, sources said Tuesday.

Wojciechowski, 37, was a star guard for the Blue Devils from 1994-98. He interviewed for the Marquette job Monday, according to The Associated Press.

The Golden Eagles are looking for a replacement for Buzz Williams, who earlier this month left for Virginia Tech.

Wojciechowski has been on the Blue Devils' staff since 1999. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2008.

Williams led Marquette to a 139-69 record and five NCAA tournament appearances in six seasons.

Wojciechowski has never been a head coach at any level, but has worked primarily with the Blue Devils' post players during his 15 seasons on Krzyzewski's staff.

Krzyzewski has said he considers Wojciechowski a head coach, and when the Hall of Fame coach felt dizzy and light-headed during in a loss at Wake Forest last month, Wojciechowski filled in for him at his postgame news conference.

Wojciechowski was selected as the national defensive player of the year in 1998 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. During the final three years of his playing career at Duke, the Blue Devils were 74-26.

Interim Marquette athletic director Bill Cords told the AP last week that the school is moving as quickly as possible to hire Williams' replacement, but did not reveal who is on his wish list of candidates.

The Golden Eagles, picked to win the reconfigured Big East this season, finished sixth in the 10-team league with a 17-15 record and had their eight-year run of NCAA tournament appearances snapped.

19 years under Coach K is like a PhD under Einstein. Just in NCAA mens' basketball! He's going to surprise a lot of doubters in the next few years. K wasn't exactly John Wooden when he came into the ACC..two years of basketball disappointment at Duke was first up..look at him now..WoJo will do the same at MU if he stays
