Rodon fans 11, USA defeats Cuba 5-3

NC State pitcher Carlos Rodon fanned 11 to lead Team USA (20-3) to a 5-3 victory and a series sweep over Cuba Tuesday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
In six and two thirds innings pitched Rodon threw 82 pitches, 63 strikes and only allowed three hits. Rodon’s opening pitch was a 94 mile-per-hour fast ball, his last hit 95. Rodon left the mound to a standing ovation from the 4,845 fans in attendance.
In three previous appearances and 10.1 innings pitched for Team USA Rodon had a perfect 0.00 ERA. The lefty only allowed three hits, walked four and struck out ten.
Fellow Wolfpack teammate Trea Turner started Tuesday at shortstop and took the leadoff spot. Turner had two runs, a hit, a stolen base and a walk.
Turner had batted a .208 in 19 games prior to Tuesday. In 72 at bats Turner had 11 runs, 15 hits and eight stolen bases.
North Carolina's Skye Bolt entered in the eighth to pinch hit but struck out swinging. He remained in the game in the ninth to play center field. In 12 games played, Bolt had a batting average of .125 with four hits, three runs and a homerun.
Team USA won the first four games of the Friendship Series being held between USA and Cuba in various cities in the United States for the first time since 1996.
