Professional experience: Baseball America (variety of roles since 1996; editor in chief since 2005). Previous full-time employment includes Hickory Daily Record & High Point Enterprise. Freelance work has included TV work for Durham Bulls, MLB Network and ESPN as baseball color analyst.
Education: UNC, 1994 (BS History)
Hometown: Fayetteville, NC, moved a bit and graduated from Asheville High in 1990.
Playing days: Ha! Get real, look at my glasses. Cut from every team that I could get cut from, but I was a solid screening big man in the Jay Bilas mold for Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Asheville in '90.
Most memorable moment in sports history: 1) Holding my newborn son in my arms when the Red Sox won it all in '04. 2) 2000 Olympics, baseball semifinals (Doug Mientkiewicz walk-off HR vs. Korea for US victory); 3) George Lynch steal & dunk at Smith Center to cap 1993 comeback for North Carolina vs. Florida State.
Favorite sports venue: Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha (gone now). Otherwise ... AT&T Park in San Francisco
If I wasn’t working in sports I would be: Teaching history/Civil War issues or working at the UN or in some diplomatic mission (those were past goals)
