Professional experience: I've covered local and national soccer since 2009. I host WRALSportsFan's Inverted Triangle Soccer Podcast and regularly appear on a number of national soccer broadcasts, including SiriusXM FC. The N.C. Press Assn. cited my soccer coverage in 2012 and 2014. I also covered N.C. State basketball for INDY Week from 2009 to 2012.
Education: B.A. in Political Science, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (1993); J.D., Campbell University (1996)
Hometown: Maysville, N.C.
Playing Days: My last days of organized sports were playing JV basketball and varsity baseball in high school. Adulthood has found me more often on the golf course, time permitting.
Most memorable moment in sports history: 1) Although I'm a Tar Heel, I sprinted around my family's sofa as a 12-year-old when Lorenzo Charles' dunk won N.C. State the 1983 basketball championship. 2) UNC's 1993 basketball championship when I was a college senior in Chapel Hill; 3) Being present when the Carolina RailHawks defeated Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, and the LA Galaxy on a side field at WakeMed Soccer Park in 2014 was both special and surreal.
Favorite sports venue: Of those I've visited, Centre Court Wimbledon in England. Of those I haven't, all the cathedrals of soccer in England, Spain, Italy, South America and Mexico.
If I wasn't working in sports I would be: ... what I already am: a licensed attorney since 1996 and virtually a full-time film critic for various media outlets since 2002. Movies are the only things I hold more definite opinions on than sports.
