Hurricanes President Jim Cain Resigns

RALEIGH, N.C. — Carolina Hurricanes President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Cain announced his resignation Friday.

Cain helped to set up the team's "Contract with the Fans," which was introduced prior to the 2000-01 season. During the summer of 2001, Cain helped to increase the team's season ticket base and secure a commitment to host the NHL All-Star game and NHL draft. Most recently, Cain helped complete the naming rights agreement with RBC Centura and a five-year television deal with Fox.

"Because of the hard work of our fine staff, I'm able to leave this organization knowing that I contributed to its progress," said Cain. "I had a three-year game plan that focused on earning the respect and support of the community, improving customer service and the fan experience, increasing season ticket sales and attendance, and securing a naming rights agreement for our great arena. We've done that - ahead of schedule."

Cain has led the business side of the NHL franchise since February 2000.

Peter Karmanos, Jr., CEO of Compuware Corp. in Detroit and the owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, will now serve as chief executive officer for the team. Jim Rutherford will serve as president as well as general manager. Jason Karmanos will be the vice president of operations for the hockey club as well as assistant general manager.
