DURHAM, N.C. — Former Duke University basketball star J.J. Redick pleaded guilty Monday to drunken driving, several weeks ahead of his scheduled court date.
Redick, 22, was placed on unsupervised probation for a year, was fined $300 and was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service within the next 90 days. The Orlando Magic rookie will be allowed to perform the community service in Florida, authorities said.
Redick was arrested at about 1 a.m. June 13 when he turned around as he approached a license checkpoint near the Duke campus, police said. He pulled into a parking lot of an apartment complex after police pursued him.
According to court documents, Redick had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent. The legal limit for drivers in North Carolina is 0.08.
Redick, who has a Virginia driver's license, lost his driving privileges in North Carolina for 30 days, police said.
Redick ended his college career as the leading scorer in Atlantic Coast Conference history. He was the 2006 Associated Press Player of the Year.
