RALEIGH, N.C. — The RBC Center parking lot looked more like a State Fair midway on Saturday, as the annual Caniacs Carnival kicked off the new season.
Most of the fun and games were outside, but hockey fans got a treat inside, where they got a chance to have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup. The Carolina Hurricanes said it's been a banner off-season.
"From the ticket sale side to just the overall community feel that has continued form the championship right up until the opening, we're getting ready for Wednesday's opening and banner raising," said Hurricanes spokesman Howard Sadell.
The puck drops on the new season Wednesday night as the 'Canes face off against the Buffalo Sabres. That's also when the 'Canes will raise their championship banner as the reigning Stanley Cup Champs.
