The Fayetteville Guard indoor football team has hired a new general manager and head coach, officials said Wednesday.

Robert Heath, a former operations sergeant major for the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg and the owner of ProGraphix Sports Marketing in Fayetteville, will serve as general manager.

Charles Gunnings will serve as head coach and director of football operations. He is a former player for the Cape Fear Wildcats and previously served as defensive coach for the Guard.

"Bringing these two men into the Fayetteville Guard organization not only greatly benefits the team but the Fayetteville community. Both men want this team to succeed and build a lifelong relationship with the city of Fayetteville and the surrounding towns," team owner Richard King said in a statement.

The schedule for the Guard's 2007 National Indoor Football League games will be announced next month, but season tickets are already on sale.
