DURHAM, N.C. — It took a late fourth-quarter field goal for the the North Carolina Central Eagles to repeat as CIAA champs.
Brandon Gilbert kicked a 52-yard field goal with no time remaining to lead the Eagles over the Elizabeth City State Vikings 17-14.
The win means North Carolina Central is 11-0 for the first time in school history. The school will move to Division I and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The school has to submit a strategic plan to the NCAA by June 1. There could be plans for either a new stadium for the Eagles or a renovated facility.
