HOT SPRING, Ark. — The basketball season is over for the Shaw University women's basketball team, two games short of a bid for the national championship.
Central Arkansas stopped the Bears 87-73 in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Wednesday night in Hot Springs, Ark.
The loss was the first for the Bears in the United States this season. They were in the Bahamas when they lost Jan. 2 to California University of Pennsylvania.
Shaw's Bears apparently weren't themselves against their opponents, nicknamed the Sugar Bears. Normally a high-energy, fastbreak team, the Bears played a half-court offense most of the night and generated only eight fastbreak points.
Central Arkansas advanced to a semifinals game tonight against Washburn. Seattle Pacific and Merrimack meet in the other semifinal.
