CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Danny Figueroa of Miami scored from third base on an error in the ninth inning Sunday to tie North Carolina at 7 and an inning later the teams decided to call the game a draw so the Hurricanes wouldn't miss their flight home.
Matt Ellington was 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs for the Tar Heels (28-8-1, 11-4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Justin Webb and Seth Williams also homered for North Carolina.
Ryan Braun was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs for Miami (29-9-1, 13-4-1). Alex Garabedian was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI single. Danny Valencia also added two hits in four at bats and drove in a run.
The Tar Heels scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 7-6 lead after Williams hit a solo homer, Webb's bases-loaded sacrifice fly and a RBI-single from Ellington.
Figueroa reached first base in the ninth inning on a fielder's choice and then scored from third when a grounder to third got through the legs of North Carolina's Reid Fronk.
Adam Kalkhof of North Carolina allowed four runs on three hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out one and threw two wild pitches. Hurricanes starter Ricky Orta allowed four runs, three earned, in 2 1/3 innings. He had two strikeouts and a walk.
The game was cut short in the tenth inning because of a pre-determined game curfew resulting from Miami's travel schedule.
