DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Bulls have announced that shortstop B.J. Upton has been assigned to Durham from the Montgomery Biscuits (AA).
Upton was rated as the No. 2 prospect in Minor League Baseball by Baseball America this season behind Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer, currently with the Twins.
Upton, 19, was hitting .327 with the Biscuits with two home runs, 15 RBIs and three stolen bases in 29 games. He was the Devil Rays first round selection (second overall) in the 2002 June Amateur Draft as a 17-year old out of Chesapeake, Va.
The Bulls begin a four-game series against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons Thursday in Scranton, then return home for a four-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday, May 17.
