Amato To Rejoin Florida State Staff

Two months after being fired as head football coach at North Carolina State University, Chuck Amato returned to his roots Wednesday, rejoining mentor Bobby Bowden on the coaching staff at Florida State University.

Bowden announced that Amato would serve as executive associate head coach and linebackers coach. Amato coached at Florida State from 1982 to 1999, when he was named head coach at N.C. State, his alma mater.

Amato replaces Kevin Steele, who resigned recently to become the University of Alabama's defensive coordinator.

"With Chuck Amato accepting the position, we have completed our coaching staff, and I could not be more pleased," Bowden said in a statement. "Chuck's return to Mickey Andrew's staff with Odell Haggins and Jody Allen, along with the new offensive coaches and John Lilly, should give us as good a coaching staff as there is in the country. I feel like the blend of maturity and youth will work perfectly for us. Chuck will fill the last void we had in our staff and allow us not to miss a beat."

Amato led the Wolfpack to bowl games in his first five seasons and finished with an overall 49-37 record. But N.C. State posted a 3-9 record last fall -- losing its last seven games -- and had losing records in two of the past three seasons.

"I'm excited about being back on board at Florida State and the opportunity coach Bowden is giving me," Amato said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to working with coach Bowden, coach Andrews, Odell and John again, as well as the rest of the staff. I'm also looking forward to working with everyone on the support staff at FSU. I know everybody there, and we are so familiar with everything so I'm just very excited about that."

It is apparent you are not a NC STATE fan. Had you been, then you would know that Coach Amato did things for the WOLFPACK that will be enjoyed for years to come. His positives far outweighed his negatives.

Between the NASCAR sunglasses and ruby-red slippers, Chuck is going to the right place--a school where all the emphasis is on the coach. A football program should be more about the players and less about the coach. Chuck's unfortunate legacy was promoting his questionable image to the detriment of his players and to the embarassment of the university. I'm not even an NC State fan, but the new guy from Boston College will already help the university with its image problem, finally portraying a sense of class and professionalism lost during the Amato years. Kudos to the NCSU adminstration for realizing one's coaching staff reflects on the whole university.

i hope he doesn't forget his tennis shoes and sunglasses.

FSU will probably do better. The only team state could beat was fsu. They started their slide when he left fsu.

(who cares about NCS and FSu,get a life)

feelinnnnngs nothing more than feelinnnnngs..... if you don't care, why say something!!!!!!!
