Wolfpack Coach Kay Yow Set to Return to Sideline
Jan 25, 2007
Raleigh, N.C. — A familiar face will be back on the sidelines for the Lady Wolfpack on Thursday.
Kay Yow will be back on the court when the women's basketball team hosts Virginia. The Hall of Fame coach said she is ready to return.
"It's exciting for me to have this opportunity to return to the team," Yow said.
Yow missed 17 games after leaving the team in November. Doctors found the breast cancer that first recurred during the 2004-2005 season had progressed. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. Players are happy to have their coach back.
"Knowing that she's going to be over there on the sideline. It's just inspirational. Knowing that Coach Yow is going to be back," said Khadijah Whittington.
Yow's return is timely. Thursday night's game against the Lady Cavaliers marks the start of a big weekend for the Pack.
On Sunday, the team faces Boston College in the team's second annual Hoops for Hope game.
Proceeds from the game benefit Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Funny story about Coach Kay. When I was a senior in High School I was dating a girl who was a remarkable point guard. I was at one of the games when this woman who looked vaguely familiar sat down beside me and started talking about the game. After about 5 minutes she started talking about the girl that I was dating and how she was playing and if I knew what plans she had for college and what not. In about 15 minutes I had told her she enjoyed her visit to NC State but she was still looking at other schools, and I gave her a list. I spilled the beans about everything! The woman was very nice and after about 5 more minutes got up and left. Not 30 seconds later the girls mother came down and told me that I was talking to Coach Yow. Immediately, I knew that I just got worked over for information, but I honestly didn’t care and neither did the girl. Her mother told me that Coach Yow had asked a few questions found out who her boyfriend was and armed with that information she was
I have had the honor of meeting "Coach Kay" and the following statement best describes her.
"People may not always remember what you say or what you did. They always remember how they felt when they were around you".
A very classy Lady.
I wish Her only the best in the future.
She's still in our prayers.
