RALEIGH, N.C. — The NHL Carolina Hurricanes have named veteran center Rod Brind'Amour the team captain. He follows Kevin Dineen, Keith Primeau and Ron Francis.
Coach Peter Laviolette said Brind'Amour is "everything you could want from a leader."
The Hurricanes acquired Brind'Amour in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2000 and he helped them reach the Stanley Cup Finals two years later. In 241 games with Carolina, he has 61 goals and 101 assists with 150 penalty minutes.
The Hurricanes surprisingly selected three alternate captains, including newcomer Cory Stillman. Veterans Kevyn Adams and Glen Wesley also were selected as alternates.
